    Designated Aromatic Pipe?

I’m on the other side of that argument, while ghosting is real, you just need to clean your pipe well with Pipe cleaners, or even better with pipe cleaners and alcohol occasionally and smoke a couple non-aro bowls and the ghosting will disappear... I smoke anything, in any pipe. You could try...

How Do You Hold Your Pipe In Your Mouth?

That was a TRUE actual lol for me... (I think the comment you quoted was meant without irony, but it sure sounds like he’s talking about something else) I used to clench rear left molars, but I had a large filling and was told to avoid pressure on it, so now front left, which I prefer anyhow...

    Frequent Tamping is Key

I tamp a fair amount more these days, I can‘t think it would be any less than 10 tamps per bowl, it has increased over time, you could be on to something here... Of course it depends on the blend too. I don’t think I used a tamper though for the first few years, now I have a Czech pipe tool...

Savinelli 6mm Without Filter -- Experiences?

Yes it can be smoked without... My first pipe was a Sav and it came with these balsa wood sticks as filters. I do think it cooled and smoothed out the smoke, but I forgot about them and rarely used them. Of course that piece of wood in the pic is a tamper, not a filter.

It Must Have Been Expensive to Learn How to Smoke a Pipe 100+ Years Ago

Very interesting topic. Generally most older societies were poorer than recent ones, although average standard of living has dropped recently in many Western societies, specially the US, but that is for other reasons, another discussion,,, I remember reading the of King France a few hundreds...

Rusticated or Smooth. What Do You Prefer?

Yeah, like most said, it depends... Overall I prefer smooth “flame” grain in bright colours and contrast, at least for the look. But sandblast and rusticated can also be very nice too, depends on the pipe. I think it’s easier for the makers to produce sandblast, rusticated, in most cases.

What Is Your Favorite Blend Type?

Dark Fired Ky (I put American in the poll), English, and I just ordered some aro for the first time in about 10 yrs. I can’t wait... I’ve missed them, this Amphora “Original“ blend, it’s not the original though, contains dark fired and burley, so I think it will have enough nic for me, the only...

New Guy Smoking Experiment And Question

As to the OP’s experience, could also be the cob, surprised no one mentioned this. You are literally burning corn husk on the side of your bowl, that creates a sweetness. I prefer well seasoned Briar, less bowl taste, but I like cobs. Of course Meers and clays are another story, when it comes...

    I Saw a Unicorn

I’ve seen about 10 unicorns here in my home town of Toronto, Canada, over the last ten yrs. now that I count them up, more than I thought at first... And one of those was none other than myself, catching a glimpse of my own reflection in the sacred pool...

Buying First Pipes, A Few Suggestions

Also hit up antique and junk/thrift shops if you have any around... Most pipes are junky there, but there are certainly diamonds in the rough at great prices. And even a cheap unattractive pipe, can still smoke well to start off.

    Heavy Sigh

I see the odd pipe smoker, one every 5 years or so... I enjoy when people see me smoking in the park, though I don’t do it for attention... -Carry the torch and burn your pipe brighter then:)

    How Cold Is Too Cold?

I’m a Canadian so I’ll see your 45 degrees F (7 degrees C) and raise you a -2 C, 28F-ish... You’re absolutely correct though it’s all about the wind, smoking a pipe in winds sucks, plus it’s much colder... Without much wind lower temps aren't that bad, but I ain’t gonna suffer for a bowl...

    Good Deal

I’ve done the same and did that for years... The only problem is the tobacco will eventually stick to the wood, even if it’s stained. I got my first Czech pipe tool and lovin it, fits on the keychain and works amazing and cheap and stylish, never going back. Anyhow, nice tamps.

    Tobacco Recommendations for a Beginner.

I burn a hot hard smoked pipe, and only recall one type of tobacco that gave me bite... Virginia-Perique, although it could have been the brand. My go to for years was Peterson Old Dublin, a very rounded English blend, that might work. Not sure if it’s available in bulk, but who cares if it’s...

4Noggins, The New Pipes & Cigars

At least this read was worth learning about Pipes and Cigars... I’ve eyed their site a few times and they have stuff SP doesn’t, like Backwoods which a decent budget bottom shelf aro. As a Canadian I won’t risk it, SP has great fast service here... Anyhow, hope you get your reduced shipment...

    Dark Fired Kentucky

I just recently got into to DFK the last few months, after being lost in the English wilderness for almost a decade... I got Amphora DFK, really great stuff and I have cellared a bunch. I have to say I think I prefer it to Latakia, though I still enjoy Lat. I think I’m also going to go back...

    Pipe Pricing

yes I’m an art lover too, was more referring to art in the negative sense, like modern art, overboard for no reason. Even though I’m a whisky drinker, not loving those Devil’s cut, of course to each their own, but Rattrays does seem to have some really nice classic shapes and colours at fair...

    Pipe Pricing

Yes like was mentioned earlier, it’s mostly reputation and less about style/quality, that makes the price. I personally find many of those super expensive strange looking “art” pipes to be hideous looking and would never buy one, even if I could afford them... Similar to Dunhill’s, while I...

    Beginner Storage Question

Never hurts to stuff it in a jar, Samwise, if you have one... But if it was decently moist upon opening, I’m sure it would be fine 3-6 months in a tin. But Jar it if you have one, because you never know how long you might want to keep it. Judging by this forum, lots have started smoking pipes...

Shire Pipes (I Have Read Previous Threads But Was Curious If....) *Pictures Inside

It actually looks like real wood, I don’t see why it wouldn’t smoke properly... Just hearing about bowl coatings in a few threads, never seen one myself. I rub a little bit of olive oil into new bowls myself sometimes. if you go on smokingpipes.com, pretty much any bent churchwarden pipe is a...
