    GLP Must Have Blends

I do not mean to be a wet blanket here, but I largely steer clear of GLP blends because of the recurring mold problems at C&D. I just do not relish the thought of finding something I like, laying some by, and then, in a couple of years, opening a tin of tobacco to find the contents grew a...

Is Doblone d’Oro Still Worth Buying?

That confirms my supposition, and it is one of the key reasons I give your reviews as much weight as I do. I do not treat your reviews as recommendations in general, but I do within the genres I enjoy. I do not like star or numerical ratings either. At Beer Advocate I have a devil of a time...

    Sunday Surprise

I picked up a tin of Cringle Flake a couple months back. Sounds like I need to crack it open and see what the fuss is about.

Is Doblone d’Oro Still Worth Buying?

A 4-star rating from @JimInks is a powerful endorsement. But my sense is that he also rates a blend as much based on how well it succeeds at what it is trying to be as he does on how much her personally likes it. That is how I rate beer at Beer Advocate. There are plenty of brews I rate...

Is Doblone d’Oro Still Worth Buying?

I take it the perique really has been decreased, then. Dang. I like DFK, but it has taken over the pipe tobacco world. It is the closest I have seen to the realization of the perennially reissued prophecy that “the South is going to rise again.” Oddly enough, the South’s rise looks to be...

Is Doblone d’Oro Still Worth Buying?

Mine was 6-7 years old. I went several years without buying any tobacco, just smoking what I already had.

Is Doblone d’Oro Still Worth Buying?

My existing stock of Savinelli Doblone d’Oro is about depleted. I need to decide whether to replace it. That would have been a no-brainer, but there is apparently a clear consensus that the blend has been changed. In doing my homework before creating a new thread, I was not able to pin down...

How Many Open Tins is Too Many?

I would rather risk too many open tins than too many pounds of disliked tobaccos stockpiled in my cellar. Use your early promiscuity to find what you like. Then, settle down to the smaller number of blends you like best. Put back reasonable quantities of those in your cellar. At your pace...

Please Help Me Date this Parker Pipe

Those are a fine looking bunch! I would usually be drawn towards the sandblast almost regardless of shape, the Lovats would be second. Here, however, that stout bulldog is the star. @jpmcwjr, I tried your suggestion. Beforehand, there were some impressions suggestive of stampings...

Please Help Me Date this Parker Pipe

Neglect is my current theory. Is your 1924 the only 20s Parker’s in your collection? I am wondering if they did not start stamping the patent until later.

Please Help Me Date this Parker Pipe

I am usually able to date pipes with available resources, but this Parker has me stumped. It is the possessive “Parker’s,” which should mean pre-WW2. The 5 should, then, mark this as a 1928 pipe. BUT there is no patent number stamp. Any ideas?

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

I am putting this here because bidders may well have thought they were buying a British pipe. This was made by William Demuth Company under license or in partnership with BBB. Era advertising does make much of the British heritage of the marque. WDC is always (at least in the ads I have seen)...
