Fribourg & Treyer 'Special Selection' Pipe Grade?

The “hand cut” stamp looks like some of my GBDs. That may be the same stamp used in other Oppenheimer production. My one Sasieni with a “hand cut” stem stamp is, if I remember correctly, arched like their “Made in England” stamp. Whoever made it, you have wound up with a great pipe.

    Changes in GH twists

I am not sure you are wrong. I also don’t think you were off topic - at least no farther from the OP than many others, myself included. I do hope you are wrong about what it takes for a small tobacco company to have a future. What I have seen in my brief glimpses of the big social media...

    Changes in GH twists

They could have a billion dollar dream team of vapid influencers, and I would never know it. I did stumble upon LJ Peretti’s Instagram page while seeking to verify that their Thanksgiving blend had already come and gone (I’ll try again next year). I am flabbergasted to think someone has the...

Point. I didn’t mean to imply that G&H is the only company with a presence here.

    Changes in GH twists

I am pleasantly surprised by the way this has gone. I am not an uncritical consumer, and I do miss some of the G&H blends that are no longer produced, but I am loath to berate a small tobacco company hanging on in Britain and trying to serve a niche within a niche market. Plus, with the...

    Changes in GH twists

That is great news about Grasmere! I can understand that I may have been one of the few people who liked Coconut Twist. I last saw Kendal Dark Vanilla at Smokingpipes.com in early 2017. It was very good. If there is any chance of its resurrection, I would love to see it again.

    Changes in GH twists

Increased rope production was what I suspected as the reason Smokingpipes could keep them in stock longer. I have not noticed changes from year to year greater than one would expect from the vagaries of tobacco crops. When I have received tobacco less perfumed than I expected, the culprit has...

    Looking for a New Knife

Case makes the best traditional folders, bar none. I haven’t seen any other maker get close, aside from an old Kutmaster Purina ad knife that belonged to my grandfather. Even that knife’s blades fall short of the Case standard.

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

Might be worth asking about, but you are right about their work. I rarely buy pipes already restored (a statement more about my status as a skinflint than my prowess at restoration), but I will buy from them because they tend to adhere to the “first, do no harm” principle.

Had you used salt/alcohol treatments or the like? When I see those or, more striking still, the stummels submerged in jars of alcohol, I wonder what are the consequences for the wood.

    Sutliff Mixture 79 Cherry Brandy

I happened across Mixture 79 Cherry Brandy at WV Smokeshop. I remember seeing an old magazine ad for it years ago, but I didn’t think it was still produced. It may be that what WVSS is old stock. There are a few reviews at Tobacco Reviews. Tongue bite looks to be a potential problem. I...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

That is an excellent point! What Deadmanspipes has been selling was assuredly not gleaned from estate sales. The 1910s-1940s in-the-rough estate pipes, however, still have me in awe at the depth of “reserves.”

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

Indeed! Deadmanspipes has been churning out a steady stream of white whales, unicorns, and other marvels. I have a backlog of concluded auctions - including several of his - I would like to add to this thread. I just have not had the time to make numerous posts with uploaded photos. The number...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

It sounds like we share a tendency to worry maybe a bit more than is necessary. The sodium silicate solution should do the trick. I have a few pipes that will definitely get that treatment - some due to chamber charring. Something that might reassure you: I gave one of the unsmoked 1914 pipes...

    Looking for a New Knife

I like the Mercator, but for the OP I would recommend one of theses carbon steel options from Case: Case XX Knives -Yellow Synthetic CS - https://www.shepherdhillscutlery.com/Handle/DisplayHandlePageFH.asp?MaterialAutoID=78

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

If you haven’t burned them out already, you are probably in the clear. Still, I am also curious. Some time ago, I snapped up on the cheap a small collection of 1913-1916 English pipes in unsmoked condition. There were no famous makes in the mix (the closest would be an original Malta...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

I think the seller of the 100 may be on one of the most spectacular runs I have ever seen. The price of the Parker may be a record-setter, but it did not surprise me. It’s early, it’s a blast, and it must be nearly the only of its kind.
