    Age of These Cobs?

I believe so. I'm not 100% sure if MM was making the shape for themselves before they bought out H&B, but H&B named the Series, including the Great Dane Egg. They were marketing it for a long time before MM used the name, from what I've seen. The truth is, MM was always as conservative as...

    Age of These Cobs?

As for their Value, when I sold these pipes there wasn't much of a collectors market for them so I probably didn't ask too much but I don't really remember. If I decided to sell any of them today, I'd honestly probably ask like $200 each. But that's also why I used to collect them (they were...

    Age of These Cobs?

H&B was the only major long term competition for Missouri Meerschaum. They made cob pipes from the late 1800's up until I believe the 1980's. But the St. Louis location was very early production for them. They later moved to Washington Missouri, literally like a block away from the MM factory...

    Age of These Cobs?

You most likely bought them from me, or bought them from someone who bought them from me ! I have a small collection of unsmoked cobs with these two labels on them, and sold a handful of them years ago. These are late 1800's to very early 1900's pipes. Detmold Pipeworks was bought out by...

Anyone Actually Like the Big Ben Tattoo?

I used to smoke one of these in high school. I bought it at the Gas Pipe (headshop) for like $20 😀

Who Bought This Ryan Alden Estate On This Forum In 2020?

I'm kind of kicking myself for dropping rustication off my "To Do" list. I've made several rusticated pipes, but never sat down to just really dial in a particular style. When I made these pipes, I tried several different ways of carving, trying to hone in on the one I liked the best. This pipe...

Who Bought This Ryan Alden Estate On This Forum In 2020?

I may have a pretty similar unsmoked pipe from the same timeframe that this pipe was made. I was experimenting with different rustication techniques for awhile, but sort of got distracted and dropped the idea. I've made very few rusticated pipes since then, but pretty sure I have a similar...

    Third Time Is Definitely Charms

@georged you summed it up perfectly. The Time West repair was actually pretty innovative, to join the old broken base of the stem to a new top half. But it's still just a clunky cheap factory stem ! It's maybe the fastest cheapest way to return the pipe to service, but why not make it BETTER...

    New Ryan Alden

@AroEnglish that's the gist of it. A bit more Briar inside the Silver, and a longer tenon on the Delrin, but otherwise yes.

    New Ryan Alden

That's a cool little pipe, and very much my style ! I'd carry it in my pocket every day, banging around with my keys and lighter and spare change. That's why I can't be trusted with nice things. Enjoy it Sir !

    New Ryan Alden

Was that a Military Mount ? I didn't think I'd done it this way before, but maybe that's why I had the idea in my head for this one lol

    New Ryan Alden

Not just a Military Mount, but a Delrin lined Military Mount ! Which is a first for me, and maybe anybody ? I forgot to point that out in the listing, but man I like it a lot. The Cap on this one comes down to such a narrow point, I wasn't real happy with the tiny amount of wood surrounding the...

    Pipes & Tobacco Magazine

Yeah, that sucks ! Lots of great articles over the years. I'm glad Chuck Stanion is still writing though, his Editorial was always a favorite of mine. He is writing articles for www.smokingpipes.com now, he is as off the wall and hilarious as ever.
