    My First Savinelli

The apple shape has always been my favorite and the 626 has just the right bend to make it comfortable to hold or clench. My only complaint with them is that the acrylic bit is a little to chunky for my taste.

Seeking General Info About Gourd Calabash w/Silver Rim

It does seem that the name has been co-opted to describe the shape of a pipe, regardless of the material used. In the same manner, I see pipes described as a Cherrywood, just because of their shape (similar to a Poker) even though they are made of briar.

    Favorite Factory Pipe Brands

Family era Sasieni, older GBD and Comoy and the many old Savinellis I have are all great. For current production, I would choose a Castello or Ser Jacopo. I second the contention that Brebbia is an excellent brand for a reasonable price.

Seeking General Info About Gourd Calabash w/Silver Rim

Excuse my ignorance, but I was under the impression that a Calabash was always equipped with a meerschaum bowl. Is it possible to actually smoke one with the tobacco burning in the gourd? I would think that would lead to a very quick burn out. Perhaps this is more like a corn cob? I am mostly...

Seeking General Info About Gourd Calabash w/Silver Rim

How would you go about cleaning out the gourd?

I Suspect Most Of Us Are Not Average

That really is a pretty idiosyncratic list. I've been to 16 of them and would really like to add the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Zion some day.

    Do I need more?

Looks like a fine starter set! If a tamper was not included, you should get one and try some other tobaccos, perhaps a Virginia, an English blend and a burley. Looks like a very nice tobacco pouch in that case. The only other thing you need is some time to relax and enjoy it.

Both Of My Girls Are Pregnant

Yeah, I get it. Just trying to be funny. My daughter considered getting one to deal with coyote issues on her farm but got a livestock guardian dog instead.

"He done his job." Now you're getting rid of him? Glad that policy didn't apply to me.

    Pearl Harbor Day

On a lighter note, December 7th is the anniversary of my first date with my wife of 52 years. I still tease her about "a date that will live in infamy".

    Do Stingers really work

IMHO, if by "works" you mean do they cause condensation and result in gurgling and the occasional drink, then yes, they work.

    Movies with Pipe Smoking Scenes

Saw an old and cheesy horror movie called "The Creature with the Atom Brain" last night. Both of the hero characters were puffing as they tried to solve the mystery of re-animated, remote-controlled zombies.

What Does the Urinary Tract Have to do with Anger?

I guess I never thought about it but I imagine it's similar to the old joke where a drill Sargent says to an obviously angry recruit " I bet you're one of those guys who are going to wait till I die and piss on my grave." To which the recruit replied "Sir, no sir, when I get out of the army I'm...

    Would You Date An Alien?

I'm thinking of Kim Basinger in "My Stepmother is an Alien", so yeah.

    Autumn Leaves

I'm sure I saw a Norman Rockwell image or something similar which triggered this response. When I have to rake the leaves every fall, I find the task much more pleasant accompanied by my pipe. I'll load up an easy to clench briar, perhaps with a Virginia flake and take a Zippo lighter, since...

I'm going to guess that you must be from Eastern Washington. Hello from the rainy side of the state!
