Welcome from Granite Falls, WA. (Lived on Queen Anne hill quite a few years ago!).

    Loose Tenon/Mortise Interface

Heating the tenon and pressing it against a hard surface to reshape it works (at least if it's a vulcanite tenon), but the method is imprecise and risks imparting a burned rubber taste if not done carefully. You might try a few coats of clear nail polish.

What Is a Dried Out Classic Tobacco Worth To You?

I would pay the cost of shipping.

    Savinelli Gold vs Punto Oro

I believe the Mr. G featured a contrasting briar ring, set off by two brass rings in the stem. The one I have is an excellent smoker.

    The Dublin Shape Gets Subtle

I agree that Ser Jacopos are gorgeous, but as to not getting carried away, have you seen the "Insanus" series?

Does better grain equal better taste?

IF, all else is equal (and it never is) perhaps someone could detect a difference in smoking quality caused by the orientation or quality of the grain. It's also possible that the better grained pieces are singled out for more attention in curing and carving since they will sell for a higher...

    Pondering!

When I had a stone the nurse who admitted me said she had delivered a baby and had a kidney stone. She said she would take childbirth any day because at least you got something for your pain.

    Cargo Hold in Washington State

Once upon a time, I used to frequent Tinder Box stores in Southcenter and the Alderwood mall as well as three Pipelane locations. Even the downtown Frederick & Nelson store had a small, but well stocked tobacconist. Now there's only the Tinderbox in Tacoma and some smoke shops. The Seattle...

    Cargo Hold in Washington State

I've been planning a trip there and hope to make it soon. It's a shame that there are so few B&M pipe stores in Washington these days.

1919 Red Scare Era WDC Pipe Advertisement

I always took that to be what they were implying. Sadly, I never found it to be true.

    Learning Different Styles/Blends

I'm going to offer some specific suggestions based on my own experience. Once upon a time, Dunhill offered a range of tobaccos in most categories. Now Peterson offers their versions which are representative, if not quite the same. For a full English mixture, try 965. A lighter blend would be...

Tobacco Knife (My Grandpa’s Old Case XX)

I got a Case lockback at the time my daughter was born and managed to lose it after 40 years. Of course, they don't make that model anymore, so I had to get one from Ebay. Shortly after that, I spotted another one that was NOS so I got that as well. I gave one to my daughter to use when she's...

    Jim's Sutliff Paradoxical Review.

Just my lame attempt at humor.

    Jim's Sutliff Paradoxical Review.

I was just wondering if that's the name of the blend, or if Jiminks' review is paradoxical.

Calabash-shaped Pipe and Real Calabash Gourd Pipe

I have a Pioneer calabash that I got about 40 years ago. I wanted to have a sample of different types of pipes, briar, corncob, meerschaum, etc. and because of the Sherlock Holmes connection (not true of course). I have to say, it really is a fine smoker.
