Looking for an oriental heavy blend. Got C&D Oriental Silk in my cart. What are your thoughts?

I really like Oriental Silk and I also recommend Orion’s Arrow if you haven’t tried that one… come to think of it those are pretty similar. I’ve heard good things about Low Country Virginia & Oriental. I enjoy D&R Ramback Gold and Ramback regular for an Oriental kick but I don’t know if that is still available.

The Virginias in that one are not very good, IMO. I generally avoid C&D Virginia- based blends for the reason that they are so vegetal and, honestly, of lower quality, with the exception of Bijou, which is very good.

I'd recommend Robert Lewis Orcilla Mixture, Ascanian No.1 & No. 2, and something that strikes you from Peretti (Royal and Tashkent are two favorites).

C&D Shandygaff. Like eating a saltine cracker while floating on the ocean.

I usually just mix some Izmir into my dark burley , with or without a touch of perique

Mcconnell Oriental is a Balkan/English style, i.e. lots of Latakia. Not a bad thing, just know that going in AND if that is a planned approach, Sam Gawith Skiff Mixture is 10/10 for that style, especially with 6-12 months on it.


Sunday Picnic is decent, but I think it needs a little age. Fresh it was really sour for me.

+1 for Peretti's Oriental no. 40. It really is a unique and intriguing blend. It is oriental forward with notes of warm spices and incense. The latakia is very light, providing room for the orientals to really shine. This is one of my current favorite blends with C&D Oriental Silk a close second when it comes to balkan blends.

Get some Sutliff Turkish (TS24?) And add it to a Virginia blend of choice. Or smoke it straight. Fantastic stuff.
Sunday Picnic by C&D (great with age), WCC Simoly VOriental, GLP Temple Bar. Those are a few I really enjoy. I also really like blending my own with my favorite Perique and some Red VA ribbon.

Presbyterian has a musty oriental in it and a lot of it and just a tad of Latakia, as others have said Bjou, Straight TS24, Orions Arrow ...

The new Pease blend, Geometrie, is an oriental forward VaOr.
