I don't doubt that some of the blends I like are either made by or use leaf sourced from Sutliff.
However, the first Sutliff labeled tin I ever tried tasted so strongly of mildew that I threw it away after three or four puffs.
No doubt an exception, but it left me very unwilling to try any more.
Granted that this is very subjective, but I do believe there is a qualitative difference. It seems different blends that are attempting the same flavor profile may differ because the quality of the leaf used is different.
To use wine as an example, a bottle of supermarket "Red Blend" is...
I am not an industry insider and have no specific knowledge besides my own experience. I have smoked many different blends and it seems to me there is a difference in the quality of leaf used.
It's probable that the difference in many cases has to do with the type of leaf used rather than any...
I finally decided to try a water flush on an estate Caminetto. It instantly removed all of the stain, except in the deeply carved areas. Looked like it had some horrible disease. I sent it out to be re-stained and ozone cleaned and now it looks fine and smokes great.
I don't work for Boeing and I have no reason to defend them, especially as they have unquestionably screwed up.
I do think having a CEO who is an admirer of Jack Welch, who moves management across the country and people who think it's better to relocate much of their manufacturing to companies...
Studebaker was making wagons for the Union army back in the day!
Generally, out-of-gas calls were due to a faulty gas gauge or a kid driving Mom's car.
The fun calls were the 18 wheelers, inter-city buses, no spare tires, etc. I got quite an education working the midnight shift.

Yes, to all of them.
As for the Studebaker, right out of High school I was driving a road service truck. Got an out of gas call for lady in a Studebaker Lark. I put 5 gallons in and asked her to try starting it. Not a sound. "What exactly happened" I asked her. "I was just driving down the...
It's a bit of a trip for me to get there, so I've only managed it once when I had a good excuse. Doug is a nice guy, and we had a lengthy chat. He also gave me a good deal on several tins.
His wife runs the kitchen supply store opposite which amused me because my wife and I daydreamed about the...
I find a match makes it easier to get a uniform light of the tobacco surface, especially with a larger bowl. Other than that, I use butane in an Old Boy or Zikar, lately even with a Zippo. The lighter fluid (even the low odor variety) does give an unpleasant taste for several puffs.
Whenever anyone suggests that this group is obsessive about pipes and tobaccos, I'm going to refer them to this thread about teapots. Design, materials, mineral content of the water, sheesh!
Pardon me while I throw a teabag in a cup.
My daughter has an Anatolian as a livestock guardian dog on her farm. She's a real sweetheart. So far she has treed a bear and a bobcat and chased an eagle who had caught one of the ducks. The duck survived because of her. When my daughter was walking her and they surprised a possum, she looked...
WOW! The apple is my favorite shape, but it takes on a whole new aspect with the swan's neck stem. It looks more organic and sinuous, and the grain is striking. Needless to say, the stem fits it perfectly.
