Exploring the Evolution of Pipe Shapes

I have many different shapes and sizes to suit whatever mood I'm in at the moment. My favorite is the apple. I find it slightly more "organic" than a billiard and the thicker walls can keep the bowl a little cooler and easier to grip. If it has a 1/8 bend than it's easier to clench and somewhat...

    Favorite Christmas Song

I have a whole array of Christmas favorites, everything from Phil Spector's Christmas album to Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and George Shearing's "Snowfall". One song, "Let it Snow", has a special resonance for me. We were not officially dating yet, but I went to help the girl who's now my...

    Being Honest.

I have always felt that tact is the difference between saying "Darling, when I look at you time stands still" and "Honey, you got a face that could stop a clock".

    A Safety Tip And Warning

A friend of mine fell off a ladder while painting his mother's house and broke both ankles. He had surgery to replace them, one at a time. The healing process was prolonged, and he ended up with MRSA as well.

On the Economical Operation of Light Bulbs

Light pollution is increasing with the availability of cheaper, more efficient light sources. About 30% 0f vertebrates and 60% of invertebrates are nocturnal. Light pollution is an environmental stressor that is quite recent in evolutionary terms and is a problem for astronomers as well. This...

    Favourite Discontinued Candy Bar

Ice Cubes are still available (my favorite) and I believe Zero and Zagnut are as well.

    Get the Lead Out!

As the article states, American Greed; https://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/30/american-greed-report-food-safety-measures-face-cuts-in-trump-budget.html

    New Photojournalism Technique?

There was the famous magazine cover of OJ Simpson with the manipulated skin tone, but I grew wary of the truth in photos much earlier. When I was first interested in photography, I recall reading an article about deceptive editing. The example used was a picture of one of the Kennedys leaving...

    Conventional Wisdom

Einstein once said that time is relative. The length of a minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you're on.

    What are You Reading Now?

An ethnoregional analysis of the country from it's original settlement and how those distinctions still affect the country. The author is persuasive though he does let his opinions show.

    Conventional Wisdom

"Many hands make the work light" or "Too many cooks spoil the soup". "Great minds run in the same vein" or "Fools think alike".

What Would You Like to Still Own from Your Younger Years?

If I listed all of the things I miss from my youth, like my 1963 Pontiac Catalina with a 421 with NASCAR heads, I'd sound like a disappointed old man. I'm not. But I would like to have my 1971 Honda CB350 that my wife and I bought when we were first married. It carried us all around as we...

    Pumpkin vs Sweet Potato Pie

I prefer the classic pumpkin pie, but my daughter grows these as well as pumpkins on her farm and a pie or bread made with them tastes just the same to me. Jumbo Pink Banana squash can grow to be 30 pounds (and look like some pod person is going to emerge from them).

Do Yellow Acrylic Stems Smoke Cooler Than Black Stems?

But did you ever play darts while smoking a pipe? Now that would be cool!

    Pipe Sighting at the Movies

I think those are coasters, not ash trays. The one on the blotter looks to have a piece of paper or perhaps the cap to the water bottle in it, not a knocker. The Naval academy picture looks Photoshopped. I have seen no references to Bush smoking a pipe in a quick search.

    Hawkbill pipe shape?

IMHO, the last example is more of a 1/8th bent billiard than a hawkbill. I have one, a Ser Jacopo, which smokes well despite having a draft hole drilled a little too high. It is not much of a clencher, with a short, chubby bit. The example Mr. Seiler's presentation is a beauty. I especially...
