I just read that China produces about 3 million tons of tobacco a year. India produces about 800,000 tons. The U.S. produces about 350,000 tons. I'm pretty sure the Chinese and Indian stuff is cheaper. Do you think any of it is likely to end up in our pipe tobacco? Would tobacco companies have to reveal that? Would you care?

The short answer is maybe. GH&Co has listed Indian tobacco in their descriptions. Can’t say who else does.

Indian leaf is pretty distinct like many other leafs. It's one of my favorites but aside from products from India you will not find a huge amount in pipes or snuff. The fact though is both markets are primarily domestic. And the few Chinesse tobaccos I've tried aren't too favored by the Western Palate.
