    This Could be Mega-Bad

Ive got a couple friends that live in the Boca Raton and Ft Lauderdale area. They both live on the intercostal waterways. They are used to hurricanes but it doesn't get any easier cleaning up afterwards. They are from the same family who have family here in NYS, so they usually come North for...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Last week I bought a few tins of C&D Carolina Red Flake. I opened one then and let it sit until today. I'm currently smoking it in my best VA pipe. I will post my opinion after a few bowls. I will let the other 2 tins sit for a few years.

A Question About Tall Bowls, Help Wanted

I am currently smoking my tallest pipe, which isn't necessarily very tall. This also happens to be my favorite pipe I own. It's a cheap basket pipe stamped "Excelsior", "Imported Briar Italy" I really do not see any difference in smoking quality, but...

    Liverwurst Is Getting Bad Rep!

I'm not a huge offal fan, but I do eat heart and liver from wild fame I hunt and sometimes from our cattle. There are plenty of people waiting in line for organ meat when we slaughter a cow, so nothing is going to waste.

    Pipe Hobby Waxing and Waning

When I started smoking a pipe in 2005, I was ALL in, 100%, zero drawbacks. I had 15,000+ posts on Smokers Forums, I was constantly looking at ebay or online pipe/tobacco retailers, and I bought a LOT of pipes and tobacco.....a lot. At one point I had over 200 pipes and we'll over 100 pounds of...

    Anise / Licorice

Take Toscano cigar, tear it up, place in pipe....BOOM!!! Licorice pipe tobacco. :)

    Show us Your Favorite Sandblasts

This Comoys Gold Bark is pretty cool to me. This picture is washed out, it's actually much more orange and bright. :)

Will Italian Makers Ever Switch Back to Ebonite/Vulcanite Stems?

I much prefer Vulcanite to Acrylic. But, if a pipe I like has Acrylic, I deal with it. One reason I like older pipes....is they usually are made of Vulanite and are cut well. Kind of the best of both worlds is my one pipe with a Delrin stem. It does not shine like Vulcanite/Ebonite, but it's...

    Ebay Dunhill Disappointment

There are a few ways to tighten a stem....from very non-invasive, like @Chasing Embers said, to very invasive like heating the stem and shoving a dowel or drill bit in the hole to "hog it out". Ive done both and more with varying success. The drill bit hogging has lasted over a decade on a...

    Are Expensive Cobs Better?

Y Yep, all the Grabows now are tiny and not made very well. I have some from the 1950s-1960s that are fantastic in every way. Great wood, great stems, large bowls....

Wisconsin Sales Tax on Tobacco Starting Jan. 1, 2025

Wow, NY is the exact opposite. If I order from a NY based seller, like Pipes and Cigars, they add the 77% tax. If I order from out of state, no NY taxes taken out.

    Are Expensive Cobs Better?

In my opinion the $18 Diplomat/5th Avenue are the perfect size and shape for a corn cob pipe. They are about the size of an "average" Billiard. I do not mind the cheaper MM stems, but I do have a couple Forever Stems from over a decade ago. The FS do feel better, but again, I like the regular...

Why We're Doomed, aka Paying for a Pizza

Last year my 16 year old nephew was at our house. In my garage I have a clock that I made that is just hands, no numbers. He asked how you read it. I said to just LOOK at it. He ponders for a moment and says...."but there are no numbers". I told him he should know the numbers. He says, "that...

Years of Pipe Smoking vs. Pipe + Tobacco Count

Ive smoked a pipe for I guess about 12 years, but.... I smoked from 2005-2017....then restarted Spring 2024. I have over 100 pipes...many unrestored estates. When I restarted this Spring I had approximately 60 pounds of tobacco in many dozens of 4 ounce jars and tins. And a few bigger jars (1/2...

    Opinion of Current/Modern Stanwell Pipes?

Sinse they changed ownership and moved manufacturing out of Denmark, people don't seem to be buying them. I have not smoked a non Danish Stanwell, so I can't say. What I CAN say is that 10 years ago Stanwell pipes were right there with Savenelli and Peterson. These three were the common answer...

Pros and Cons of Meer Lined Pipes

I had one but the insert dissolved. :) I've heard many people say Meer lined pipes can be wet smokers. Mine sure was. Pressed Meerschaum doesn't have the same "wicking" properties like block Meer and briar. If you build any cake, it will stay wet and eventually dissolve your pipe. I just...

Has Your Palate for Tobacco Changed Over Time?

My tastes have not changed, but my ability to find nuance has. Blends that I liked 20 years ago, I still like....but some of the reasons why I like them have changed. I generally smoke Latakia blends and Virginia based blends, but also smoke all the other genres occasionally.
