    UV is a very big problem. Atmosphere has a large impact as well. Special oils, mineral oil and wax help protect them. As mentioned by pipe makers here...lower grade vulcanite discolors faster.

    I dont think you can source obsidian oil in the EU. You can use some food grade mineral oil perhaps? I just sand, clean in between and use a buffer and then wax at the end. No buffer just means more fine grits at the end.

    The version of Makhuwa Ive been smoking over the past year does not have cube cuts in it. Its all ribbon/broken flake. To me kind of a thick ribbon cut. Ive never had it when it had cube cut in it. I am getting it from Germany so it changed but I dont know when.

    Id use 600 grit sandpaper, then less, then buff. If you dont have a buffing wheel it takes more steps to get it glossy Forget the insistence to use chemicals.
