Now that HU Blends are readily available in the US how does it compare to OJK and Haunted Bookshop Cake ? C&D Blends are getting pricey. Would like to hear the opinions out there.

Im curious as well. Im not buying C&D in the EU but simply out of curiosity Id like to know.

I also suggest folks try Nyala for a HU Burley. Yes, it has cigar leaf but its subtle. It has less additives than Makhuwa (though some say Mak doesnt have additives Im not so sure the chocolate flavor isnt boosted).

Thats why I mentioned Nayla. Its got a LOT less topping than Makhuwa. The included cigar leaf is far in the background. It still has some cocao but it too is much more in the background than in Makhuwa.

Its still quite different from more conventional burley blends like HH burley Flake but its still burley based and worth a try.

Makhuwa is a neat blend.
Ive been playing with it for several days now. Ive tried it straight from the tin and with 12,24,36 & 48 hours of dry time. So far 24 hours dry time
Is about where I want it at for smoking. I pick up on the Virginias, Perique and Burley and they get along very well. It has a slight Chocolate Tin note and hints of Chocolate while smoking but it’s not in your face. It’s a clean burning and tasting blend without any bite and medium nic content.
Honestly I’d call it a ribbon cut Bob’s Chocolate Lite without the Latakia.1732544910126.jpeg

From this picture , it does not look like the one I know from Germany, with cube cut burley and large chunks of flakes.

I need to try a tin I have of HU Kratermischung Nr.3 and according to the description it is only Burley, Virginia and Perique. It also has 4 years on it when I recieved last week.

I've tried all three and there's little in common between them.

@sablebrush52 will say that old Makhuwa was like a chocolate milkshake, I'd only had the new one which was a very pleasant , fairly light but not thin/weak taste and pretty good chocolate taste - a taste that's pretty damn hard to do well in tobacco if it's not a natural flavour coming out of the burley.

The version of Makhuwa Ive been smoking over the past year does not have cube cuts in it. Its all ribbon/broken flake. To me kind of a thick ribbon cut. Ive never had it when it had cube cut in it. I am getting it from Germany so it changed but I dont know when.

Any of the HU products are going to present a difference from C&D for a variety of reasons, not least the sourcing of the leaf, which is otherwise known as "empire" leaf, Virginias grown in parts of Africa and India. These tend to have bolder flavors, which for me is a plus.
