Any pipe smokers that live on the beach?

We live about 100 metres from the waters edge, only small beaches though as its on a peninsula. The water recedes about 200 metres at low tide and at high tide its too shallow to swim in, anyhow its winter here so I wont be swimming. Lots of wildlife, - Sea lions, penguins and an Albotross...

Do You Smoke A $100+ Tobacco?

New Zealand is similar to Australia price wise. A 50 gram tin costs between $100-$125, approx $70 of the cost goes to the government. 25 years ago you could buy 50 gram pouches for $10.

    Favorite Tobacco Cut?

I'm limited to shag at the moment as most of my tobacco is prepared from whole leaf, though I have made a few ropes that are aging at the moment.

    Estate pipes?

I have been buying estate pipes when I find good ones, which is not as easy as it would seem here. Ive looked in over 20 junk/collectible/antique stores and markets in many different towns around where I live but pipes are not easy for me to find. Smoking is not popular here anymore due to...

    Pipe Price Points

I have only been puffing pipes for a short time and so far have only purchased estate pipes. There are no longer any tobbaconists here so perusing new pipes in person is not possible. So far I have only 5 pipes that I use and the prices paid for them range from $8 - $65 (NZ). I dont think I...

    New Estate - Herbert's By H.Perkins & Sons

Well my choices are a little limited, either Petersons Old dublin or a custom blend made from whole leaf.

    New Estate - Herbert's By H.Perkins & Sons

Thanks for the comments and the extra information about the pipe. Good estate pipes are not so easily found around here so it's good to find out more about the pipes that I do find. This one cost $25 (NZ) and was the only pipe in the second-hand store where I found it.

    New Estate - Herbert's By H.Perkins & Sons

This is my latest estate find from a junk shop in a small rural town. A small Billiard with a silver collar made by H. Perkins & Sons The stamping reads: HERBERT'S Honey Cured LONDON MADE and on the opposite side 147 MADE IN ENGLAND 6 inches long and 20.7 grams. Its a tidy piece of briar...

    Low Key Pipe Refurbishing

Great result, another pipe back from the dead. I have also been refurbishing a few pipes as I can find them in antique/junk stores. I tried automotive cut/polish on a stem and it worked fine, though I'm not sure if it's the best method.

    First Go At Making Rope

I didn't use casing for this, but I do have some here. The tobacco I used was pliant but maybe a a little dry, I've not handled tobacco leaf before so not really sure how it should feel. The latakia was bone dry so I steamed it a little until the moisture level was such that it could be handled...

    First Go At Making Rope

I had a go at making some tobacco rope from whole leaf. They turned out ok but I think with a bit more practice I could get them looking better. I used Maryland, Flue cured Virginia, dark air cured and some latakia. The Maryland was used for the outer wrap though next time I'll use the air...
