Your pipes sound like good ones. Stanwell and Grabow are respected. Don't overlook the classic corn cob either.

If you don't smoke hot and wet, you can smoke your pipe over and over by simply maintaining the airway with a cleaner and maybe scraping the chamber once in awhile with an old butter knife, or paper towel.

If you do smoke hot and wet, you won't for long.

Howdy, ,rp, & welcome! To answer your main two questions briefly:
Tobaccos: a blend I buy in bulk from a shop in TN (my #1 go-to); Black Frigate; any decent dark aromatic; any good English, the more latakia the better; Frog Morton (hard to get, the company discontinued production -- long story); an absolutely fabulous English called Black Frigate. Other than that any decent burley or Virginia-based blend will do for me.
Pipes: God, where do I start?! Short list of favorite brands -- Savinelli; Caminetto; any swoopy Danish freehands (Nording, Preben Holm, etc.); pre-Cadogan acquisition GBDs & Comoy's; Barlings; anything with a good lucite stem, especially Italian. Pretty much covers me. :)

Welcome. A refined English blend I like a lot, available in tins from our sponsors online, is Nat Sherman 356 ... hope I have that right, it's the only non-aro among the three Nat Sherman blends.

That's a good go-to. There are also a number of places like smokingpipes.com that have estate (i.e., used) pipes that can often be picked up as real bargains. I buy from them a lot (they're a site sponsor here) & only mae available pipes in very good condition. I picked up a Preben Holm** recently for $95 that could easily go for $150-275 on eBay or other auction forums. SPC is extremely good, extremely honest, & are absolutely wonderful people to work with. (Savinellis, BTW, have an EXCELLENT reputation as good smokers. A lot of us here have 5-6 or more.)
** -- Preben Holm was a master Danish carver back in the 60s-80s, who contributed materially to the phenomenon of the fantastic Danish freehand pipes that were HUGELY popular during that time period. He's considered a legend in the carving industry.

Welcome to the forums! Smoke what you want in whatever kind of pipe you want to. Try everything. Get a bag or two of cobs from Missouri Meerschaum to try out tobaccos and enjoy!

Don't mind chasingembers, mrpiper. He's a reprobate, a pirate, a smoker of Englishes, a corrupter of children, & a few dozen other things not fit to say in public.
In other words, he serves a purpose in life -- he's a bad example, just like the rest of his scurvy crew. }:)
