***What Are You Smoking, Nov. 2024?***

HU Zulu in the Northern Briars Rox Cut Jade Dublin. Loving this blend!

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

Here’s a photo from my latest bowl. Some notes: tobacco from the tin is still nice and moist, these tins are sealed like Fort Knox (i had to use a screwdriver to open and there was a loud hiss), and as already mentioned the same Zulu flavor I love.

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

As I previously mentioned in this thread, I was stationed in Germany for four years in the US Army and smoked only what I could get in Germany from tobacconists, so I smoked a LOT of HU. Zulu was/is a favorite of mine and was one of the first blends I bought from SmokingPipes (photo posted here...

***What Are You Smoking, Nov. 2024?***

Castello (16KKK) with my fave morning blend.

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

In case anyone is wondering about the packaging. They are in wide, sealed tins much like those used in the larger OGS cans. Popped the Zulu and had a bowl; so far, so good. Pretty much what I remember from when I was stationed in Germany. But I’d consider this good even without trying it before.

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

But I DID smoke those blends. Been piping since the late 80's. Are the current versions the exact same? No. Are they still good? Yes. I'm fine with the current versions of things--and many of my favorite tobaccos weren't around back in the day (like Pease and Hearth & Home). I guess I'm...

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

Escudo is still Escudo. Variances in crop, flavor, etc. are just variances of the same blend. This just sounds like the "good old days" stuff I posted about before. Also, lets not confuse distributors with manufacturers. There may only be a handful of people tinning/distributing tobacco, but...

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

No, they are alive and well. They mostly work with Arango now, though, and sell in the states.

Acrylic Stems vs Vulcanite Stems: A Comparison

I’m a bit of a Pete geek and would happily trade all my vulcanite stems for acrylic. That said, I’ve only had one vulcanite stem noticeably oxidize and it was an easy restore. Of course, I’m not a clencher, so there’s that…

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

Oh, I wasn’t speaking about you. Just a general gripe. Sorry if it sounded like I was singling you (or anyone else) out.

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

I have to just roll my eyes every time somebody pulls the old, "This tobacco was GREAT in the old days, but now it's a shell of itself..." Etc. I've heard it said about Germain's/Esoterica, Gawith, Dunhill/Peterson, and now (apparently) HU. I've been smoking blends since the 80's, started in my...

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

There's still some good stuff on SmokingPipes. The African Line stuff is my favorite by them and they still have Asmara, Fayyum, Indaba, Khoisaan, and Makhuwa. Asmara is particularly good IMO (a good English with a touch of perique and the classic HU flavor). If you favor a strong VaPer, the...

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't still be good. Different doesn't necessarily mean bad (and I don't necessarily know that it's different in any way). And no offense to Jim, but I've stopped trusting anybody else's taste in tobacco and just try what I'm interested in for myself. $31...

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

Just grabbed Asmara, Zulu, and Dark Moor. That'll do for now. Anybody tried Night Owl? That's the only other one that interested me.
