It's not technique that's the issue. It's the feeling of the smoke hitting the roof of my mouth. I've had a few great suggestions that I'm gonna give a try ?? -

It's the smoke that hits my mouth, not the stem. I think it's just the feeling of the flow of smoke on my mouth. I'm gonna give it some goes and play around with it. Thanks for your input thou ? -
White Ash Mid Smoke?
I very rarely dump the ash out. Just light tamping throughout. If I taste "ash" or notice I mite dump it out but I'm a clencherso don't look in there much. Not helpful I know but that's what I do- brut666

Me, personally. I'd light it up, then make a decision on how it smoked. For me I have to be 100% happy with the pipe. I have to like the look and how she smokes, handle's. If I'm not happy with everything then it goes. Not really in to pipes just to look at but that's just me. Is s pretty pipe thou.- brut666
