    New from Orlando

Welcome from Orlando! Glad there’s another pipe smoker in town. No tobacconists around here that I’ve been able to find over the last 20 years. There are a few places that have pipe in their name but they’re just head shops. The closest proper shop I can remember was over in Lakeland. Edward’s...

Coming Out of the Piper Closet!

I don’t necessarily go around telling everyone I smoke pipes and cigars. It really isn’t anyone’s business. I smoke alone, usually, or with one or two select friends that have equal interest in pipes and cigars. My wife knows I smoke them. The rest of my extended family probably has no idea and...

    Pipe Smoking Musicians

I am not kidding when I tell you that seeing Donald Duck Dunn on the Blues Brothers was my original inspiration for smoking a pipe. I was a kid and it just looked cool as hell. I started paying more attention to pipe smokers from that day forward.

    New from South Carolina

Welcome from Central FL. Many generations of my family were from SC. A lot of them made their way to NC, where I was raised. Sounds like you’re off to a great start. Glad you’re here.

    Luxury Navy Flake

It’s decent. It shifts into overdrive with some years on it. I very much love aged LNF and LBF.

    Those old Gillettes last forever!

    Self Haircut

Love those old razors. I use a 1947 Gillette Superspeed daily. It’s solid brass under the plating and has the weight to remind you it’s a man’s razor. No need to throw money away on plastic razors. The best part is $4 in razor blades will last me at least three years AND give you a superior shave.

How do Others View your Pipe Smoking?

My wife hates my pipe and cigar smoking. Quite vocal about it. She works in a hospital, her father was an MD, Mother a nurse, tons of Aunts and cousins are nurses. She rattles off something about unhealthy something or another. I don’t know. I’m polite as I only smoke outside.

    Golden Monkey Black Tea

I’ll second the advice on a shorter brew to combat bitter tea. Took me a long time to learn and trust that advice. I couldn’t agree more that tea is one of the few affordable luxuries left for us to enjoy. Scotch whisky used to bring me quite a bit of enjoyment. Rising prices and collectors...

Swelling Tins of Tobacco, Found One Popped.

Most of my C&D tins are buldging. I always chalked that up to the good things happening with age inside. Never had one bust. I did recently find a bad tin of Mac Baren Old Dark Fired. It was one of their 3.5oz square tins. Started noticing a progressively stronger BBQ smell coming from my...

What’s Your Best Cigar Vitola? Why?

I prefer a Gordo. I go through periods where I don’t get to smoke as often as I want. A good 6x60 gives me a nice long, slow smoke when I get the opportunity.

    What's Your Preferred EDC Knife?

My preferred EDC knife is a .357 Magnum. The only use I have for a knife is for cutting a steak.

    Live And Learn

A friend would swear by how wonderful his Captain Black Grape was. Like an idiot, I reluctantly gave it a try. As expected, it was awful. The ghosting in my MM cob was off the Richter scale. The only way I could get rid of it was to fill that pipe to the brim with something like SWR and freight...

Does Anyone Chew Their Pipe Tobacco?

I used to sneak Grandaddy’s Levi Garret as a kid and chewed plenty of Red Man in my baseball days. Moved on to the airplane business and the notion to chew on a navy flake crossed my mind one day. Was a great alternative when in close confines and a pipe wasn’t feasible.
