    Check Your Jif Peanut Butter!

A friend of mine got salmonella from Jif a few days ago. His jar of Jif had the winning numbers! Not good, that's for sure.

    Your Cellar Size

4 50g tins, one 2oz pouch and a small mason jar. Until I can find a replacement for FMOTT I have no desire to make any power buys.

Favored Techniques for Pocket Knife Sharpening?

Finding an old hand cranked grinding wheel is like finding a treasure. Prairie made them up until a few decades ago. I should have bought one then.

Favored Techniques for Pocket Knife Sharpening?

You can get a dang sharp edge real fast with a mill file and an old leather belt.

Favored Techniques for Pocket Knife Sharpening?

Find an old hand crank grinding wheel. That'll get it sharp and can't do much Damage. When I was a farrier I kept my hoof knives sharp with a 6" mill bastard file, but hoof knives are a legit business expense and would be too wasteful to use on a fine pocket knife.

    New Pipe Ghosted with 1Q.

Prince Albert is good for building cake. If that's what you want. The PG is a bit much for me though.

    New Pipe Ghosted with 1Q.

In my experience,1-Q doesn't ghost much if at all. Now Mixture 79 is a real stinker when it comes to ghosting, but fortunately you don't have that problem, A few bowls of Virginia or Burley should easily exorcise that 1-Q ghost, so I wouldn't worry about it. A good swabbing out with a Brandy...

Favorite Places to Smoke, and Public Piping Etiquette

While out walking the dog. Sadly the dog is too infirmed (Cushing's) to take on walks. The other place is in the garden, surrounded by a jungle of tomatoes, chili peppers, cucumbers, egg plants and zucchinis. Also while walking to the local shopping center, under the cover of the sycamores...

    Old Hollywood Pipe Shops

Quite a way from Beverly Hills, but Disneyland had a tobacco shop at one time. You could buy Disney stamped Briars (I suspect they were Comoys) and they sold Walt's blend.

    The National Garlic Festival

Is where you'll find me this week end, working. It's a stinky job, but someone has to do it. Actually I'm looking forward to it!

You May Say I’m a Reamer, Am I the Only One?

A thin layer of cake I've found improves performance and is all I need. Too much can damage a pipe, I was told. I don't smoke as much these days and am pretty reliable at running a "U" shaped pipe cleaner 'round the bowl so reaming isn't the issue for me that it used to be. I did ream a thickly...

    What's the Difference?

Between Jalapeno chilis and Fresno chilis? Same Scoville rating. Same colors (green turning to red with time) Same size. Some markets even sell Fresnos as Jalapenos and customers apparently can't tell the difference. Me? I'm an equal opportunity chili chomper but I find myself curious about...

    A One Pipe Man....

I think everyone started out with one pipe at some time. There are too many great shapes finishes and makers to limit my horizons, but I have cut back quite a bit----down to 3 pots, 3 apples and a bulldog. That bulldog looks lonely

Something About this Picture I Can't Quite Put my Finger On ;-)

Have you spent 18 hours in MOPP gear on a Summer day? It gives a good idea of what you can realistically accomplish. Without that training, troops would have no idea what they're in for. There are electric sensors worn in the field that respond to "hits" fired by OPFORs Getting hit by an OPFOR...
