1st Month of My Pipe Smoking Journey

I thought about trying one of those old boy lighters, but WOW $$$! I’d rather spend $100 on a new pipe and learn how to better cope with the wind. I do like using matches. There just seems to be something nostalgic about it. Just not always the most convenient method.

1st Month of My Pipe Smoking Journey

[wasn't sure if this belonged here or in general discussion? Since I'm rather new, I picked here] At the beginning of March I would have never dreamed of smoking a pipe. I never even thought about smoking, let alone a pipe. But by the end of the month (March 31st) suddenly I was smoking a...

    Greetings from SoCal!

Welcome from Texas! I’m only a month into my pipe journey, so my recommendations don’t carry much weight. But I’ve learned this so far - The Country Squire knows what they are doing when it comes to tobacco blends. I’m pretty sure they sell all their tobacco in bulk, so you can get 1oz samples.

    Thoughts on a Second Pipe

I didn’t know that. I’ll have to inquire. Not planning to be a collector or smoker of expensive pipes by any stretch, but I did just buy my first Peterson. I really just want to eventually have a Peterson and Savinelli and churchwarden. I don’t smoke everyday, at least not at this point...

    Thoughts on a Second Pipe

Yes, that’s darkened up quite a bit! I like their pipes, however, I wish they had filtered versions like Rossi does. However, I’ll likely get another one down the road as their cost is very appealing.

Smoking to the Bottom of the Bowl.

Thank you, because that’s what I do and I was beginning to think maybe I’m doing something wrong. Seems to me - in my very short experience- it has more to do with the tobacco and the pipe than it does the method of packing.

    I Love Smoking a Pipe

Wow, a piper and a writer! Nice! “even the fussing over storage” lol I’m the same way. Funny stuff. I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to do with the 17 blends I have already purchased in less than a month of smoking - PERIOD, let alone a pipe?!?! If I could’ve seen into the...

    Peterson 221 vs 230?

I I pulled the trigger and purchased the 221. It’s lighter and has a bigger bowl. Thank you all for the input! I’ll post a photo when it arrives.

    Peterson 221 vs 230?

Do both of them work well as clenchers?

    Peterson 221 vs 230?

I’m looking at the Derry rusticated. I think those look pretty cool!

    Peterson 221 vs 230?

No offense taken. I didn’t even get the joke, because until now I didn’t know there was a shape 9. 😂

    Peterson 221 vs 230?

I can see the dimensional differences between these two pipe shapes - that look very similar, but what are the practical differences? I'm planning to buy one of them - just not certain which one? I'd love to hear from some Peterson users as to why they would choose one over the other. Thank...

    Still growing.

Good point, and reminder. It’s just like anything else in life. You step beyond moderation, and you take the big risk of it causing problems. That’s a pretty solid maxim across the board in life. We just need to individually determine what’s worth the risk and what’s not?

    Sell Me On Clay Pipes

No experience speaking here, but I’ve heard they help you get the truest taste of a particular blend because there is no ghosting factor with them. I was thinking about getting one so I could use it to smoke each type of tobacco individually, so I could experience what Virginia alone taste...

    Got a New Pipe Yesterday!

Yeah, the bent billiard was my first briar purchase, and it’s a great pipe! I thinks it cool to watch it change colors after each smoke.

    Still growing.

I see. So that’s why I’ve been coughing. I’ve been wanting to taste the nuances of each new blend I try and I think I’m either taking it in too deep or have been doing too many retrohales.

I Have a Question for a Peterson Expert

I’m looking at buying my first Peterson and am desiring to get a pipe that has a filter option. I’m aware of the Army and Dublin lines, but I really like their Derry pipes. In one listing the details for filter say “Filter: no, 9mm”? Does that mean it doesn’t come with a filter but you can...

***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

My first time smoking a straight Virginia. I really like it! In fact, it’s also my first flake. I wasn’t too sure if I rubbed it out right, but I haven’t had to relight much at all, so I must have done something right.
