Worst eBay Pipe Sale Description Ever

What, this computerized fool (or sketchy ESL vendor, I suppose) knew to hyphenate must-have and well-known, but not half-bent? ...Personally as a hyphen addict, I draw the line at "high-quality", that's like "to-morrow" to me. Perfect for alcohol? Ah, yes, you pour into the bowl and drink...

What are You Drinking? November 2024

Stopped for ramen on my way back from the cigar lounge, since all I've had to eat today was a donut and it's on the way home anyway. To drink? Echigo Kashihikari

An Ode to Samuel Gawith's '1792'—Apologies to Dr. Suess

Stick 1792 in a Tupperware with half a shot of absinthe for a week, then sprinkle horse sedative on it, gotcha. ...One of the ponies on the farm had anxiety issues, so they were dosing him with Valerian cordial until the vet told 'em he had Lyme's Disease and that was messing with his head. He's...

    Flowery Tasting Tobacco

The kinda floral ones I can think of that aren't from the Gawiths... Saint Bruno, or maybe one of the American blends with deer tongue (not a conventional "flowery" flavor, sort of a light... Vanilla-mint-cinnamon?) if you can get those. I'll also second Mixture 79 and Semois.

An Ode to Samuel Gawith's '1792'—Apologies to Dr. Suess

As I pessimistically anticipate the death of War Horse and look at 1792 as a potential replacement, your verse fills my soul with hope. After all, how many blends can drive one to poetry? Even if the poem accounts to a review of... What, 3/5? One thumb up, out of two?

What Are You Listening To? - November, 2024

As the air grows cold, I revisit that venerable classic of 90s animation: Donkey Kong Country.

How Much of Your Favorite Blend is Cellared?

By my estimate, I've got about two hundred smokes worth of War Horse Bar stocked up, in a stack of tins on the shelf. Mostly from a stubborn insistence on never paying for shipping from SPC. If I can double that, it should last five years. Which, in the event of the crapification or termination...

What Cigar are You Smoking? 2024

About a third of the way through a Hobson's Choice Triplewrap, so the Connecticut is all burned away leaving only the Habano and Maduro.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2024?***

Committing a crime against Cuba and her people (despite it being a Dominican model) - The second half of a red dot Cohiba in my meer which is powerfully impregnated with War Horse. It's actually a very pleasant interplay of flavors.

To Drink or not to Drink?

Usually I drink black tea (Russian Caravan is a favorite), black coffee, or water with my tobacco. When I go for liquor, I think I've settled on aquavit as my favorite partner. The carraway and such acts as a palate cleanser to bring the leaf's flavor back into focus.

    Anyone Play Video Games?

I hear that the Lunar games are getting a rerelease for the current crop of PlayStations. Which reminded me how good those games are, so I've dug my discs out and began replaying the old PS1 release this evening. Currently just starting on the White Dragon Cave in the first one. I am cautiously...

    Newbie

The Old Line State bids ye welcome. The Savoyard in me wanted to respond with a rewrite of the opening number from The Pirates of Penzance , bit didn't want it enough to get any further than "Pack, o pack the pirate 'baccy"

Years of Pipe Smoking vs. Pipe + Tobacco Count

Letsee... Two years smoking, 9 pipes. 22 blends, in 42 containers. (A quarter of which is War Horse)

What Blends to Bring Home from USA?

Seconding an endorsement of Crooner - deertongue grass is a classic additive that used to be in (for example) Half&Half, and which has been largely neglected recently. So far as aromatics go... I don't know if Three Star Blue or Mixture 79 are available in the Old World, but they'd qualify as...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Oliva Flor Gold cigar, in a meer. The little bit of a deertongue ghost from a couple bowls of Gentleman Caller the other day is having a lovely effect.

    Smokingpipes.com Advice

I recommend an ounce or two of C&D's Crooner, at least - the deertongue is good stuff. Adds a light note of like... mint or cinnamon or something to it.

How to Get a Stain Out of a Meer?

I once had a pink stain on the side of my meer from when I left it lying on a red folder. Some delicate rubbing with 1500 grit sandpaper cleared it away no problem, and the only stain on it now is from where I rubbed the thick goo off the end of a pipe cleaner on it the other day to try and...

    Recommendations Needed On English-Aro Crossovers

To my palate, Three Star Blue is roughly equivalent to Revelation Match (both made by Sutliff), but with some amaretto flavoring. Probably could be described as an Aromatic American English.

    How do You Brew Tea?

Bags (Russian Caravan or Oolong), or brew a little pot of it (whatever looseleaf I have, usually green or Assam). No cream, very rarely sugar (only with the Assam). Nearly a decade ago I picked up a bag of Russian stuff that was sitting on the "Free for any takers foreign stuff" table in the...
