A beauty. How’s the grain on the other side?

It was in really good shape. No box but that’s ok. No chatter or char and maybe a couple smokes through it. Bowl is smooth as glass, shank is clean and virgin still so overall I was thrilled to get it. Usually they’re too much money for me or too abused.

Here’s two 312 Pre-Republic Peterson System 0 (Premiere). One is a 1312 so it was made for the Canadian market. They they are both Made in England (Block Format)

Both of these are excellent examples for dating Pete’s because the Made in England (Block Format) is often associated with Republic Era pipes; however, System 0 was used Pre-Republic.

My favorite pipe shape of Peterson is the 308. There is just something about the lines. It’s been long discontinued and I’ve been extremely fortunate to have friends supply a few and turn me onto leads. I own ten. Here are the Made in England (Rugby Style COM) so these are Pre-Republic. I own one Republic Era 308:and a few Eire’s and a Free State. Wonderful Pipes.

I'm delighted with my new Peterson, which is a Plateau Silver Spigot Smooth. A lovely piece of thick briar, but elegantly shaped. I'm dedicating this pipe to my favourite aromatic - Mac Baren Mixture Scottish Blend. So far, after two bowls, she smokes like a trooper.

The first photo makes it appear a little reddish - it's darker, as per the second photograph.

My Lestrade are small pipes. I have 2 rusticated and the Smooth. On average, they're 41mm high and 45mm wide. They are closer to the 03 shape than the XL02.
Yet, they were advertised at 46-48mm high and 50mm wide. That's a significant difference and it's just disappointing, really.

Just for fun, here’s the giant System 0 - 01 from 1923 compared to a Pre-Republic System 0 - 317

I am (and have been) waiting for the day when Peterson reintroduces an 0 01 (preferably a CP's own pipe replica)...I understand the issues with the briar to make these, but that $ is burning a hole in my pocket!

Is it the COM or numbering that lets you know it was meant for the Canadian market?
