PipesMagazine.com was the exclusive media to see the advanced unveiling of the new Decade Series Perique Tobacco before it was announced to anyone else – a day in advance of the actual media event. On Saturday March 20, 2010 L.A. Poche Perique Tobacco celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Curtis Hymel, their Operations Manager’s service to the company. All the tobacco press was invited. However, a day earlier, on March 19, PipesMagazine.com owner, Kevin Godbee got an advanced tour of the factory and a preview of the announcement to come the next day.
L.A. Poche Perique Tobacco will be quadrupling Perique production in the next couple of years with their new larger facility. They will break ground on it in the coming months. After the factory tour, while owner Mark Ryan was showing off the blueprints for the new factory, without any prodding whatsoever, he decided to open the first barrel of 10-year old Perique, and we have it on video here.
This is the first Perique tobacco to ever be fermented and aged for 10 years, and it will be called "Decade Series Perique".
Here is the exclusive video of the unveiling of the New Vintage Decade Series Perique Tobacco

OK how do I get some of IT??Can’t wait to try it!!
It will not be on the market until 2011.
We will be sure to keep you informed.
Very cool video, I just bought a tin of King William from Benningtons virginia/perique. I’ll be watching for this tobacco, hopfully I won’t have to take a 2nd mortgage to get some!!
Now that’s what I’d call cellaring!
Great video Kevin!
It must have smelled great when they opened that barrel!
I am insanely jealous that I couldn’t make it down there for the coverage! I can’t wait to see the rest of it!
Kevin, did they search you on the way out? The temptation must have been almost overwhelming. Great video.
Once again you justify our interest in, and loyalty to, a great online magazine! In the few months that I’ve been a member you’ve presented several top-flite interviews and on-site visits, super tobacco reviews, and cutting-edge political initiatives on behalf of the pipe smoking community. Kudos Kevin! You and Bob get an A+ in eJournalism. And how will I respond? With my pocket book, vowing to purchase my supplies exclusively from your sponsors — just to insure continued excellence.

Yeah, Laura wanted to come too, so at least I can tell her, “well, Bob didn’t come either”. Ha ha ha!

No, but there were a couple of girls there today that I would have liked to search. LOL.

I was actually smoking the same the entire time I worked on this piece. I only brought perique tobacco with me on this trip as I thought it was appropriate.
What a fun video! It will be good to smoke a bit of it
and even better if it’s going to be made available for
blending Perique. I’ll be waiting!
that sure is exciting!!!!!
tbh the music in the vid does get pretty annoying near the end… other than that = thanks!
Any idea how much they will have the price set for it?
LOL mrsmokeyman. I chose that music because it is New Orleans style Jazz and the Perique is grown near there.
No idea what the price will be surfmac.
Well as I’ve said before great video! And now as a mater of tastes, I really enjoy this music you added, makes this video even more funny!

Strange music for a striptease, but a great video. Thanks to Pipesmag, we lovers of the leaf once again had a very rare, and tasty treat. Thanks Kevin.
Great article and video….Can’t wait to get some. I use perique in pipe and cigarette blends. I have been using MCclelland as long as I have been blending. I was recently told that MCclelland perique is not perique at all. What exactly is the difference between MC and Poche perique? I thought Sait James perique was Saint James perique. Not that it matters, I will continue to use MC. Great stuff.
Thank’s Keven

Desperate to contact the company as I use it in a chocolate that widely touted as my best one and I am now completely out.
