Ruger: 2 out of the 3 Grabows I have are a good, solid smoke. The only reason it isn't 3 out of 3 is I haven't smoked the Viking.
I also have a Sculptura and a Westbrook - both older "coupon" pipes. My favorite is the Westbrook because it's a semi-bent author shape while the Sculptura is a straight stem. These aren't glamour pipes, just good solid reliable pipes that aren't tempermental. I don't know how the newer pipes smoke, so I can't comment on those.

Danielplainview,
I'm not sure what got me more, the pipe pics or the 70's porn music but either way my dingus started acting funny. I doubt there's few American pipe smokers who haven't had a Grabow or two and as seen above there are some real gems to be had. Thanks for reinvigorating my interest in these often maligned smoking instruments.

@settersbrace. Thanks. The old Dr Grabows make my dingus tingle. Hence the 70's porn tunes. I have a wide range of pipe brands, but have Grabow P.A.D. Some even smoke better than the high end pipes.

I got this old kind of chubby Linkman's Dr. Grabow about a month ago, so now I have two LInkman's Dr. Grabow pipes. (my only Dr. Grabows so far) I like the older pipes and this has the earlier propeller logo on the stem. Again, it has the weird stinger, but it doesn't bother me as much as some others do. The stinger is kind of an odd shape, but doesn't seem to interfere with the great way these old pipes smoke, and I love the history behind them.

My Uncle Leon's last pipe, a Grabow Starfire. I've cleaned it up, but it has a hole where he would clench it in his eye tooth. He was known to fall asleep with it in his mouth on the porch still smoking, pipe hooked on that tooth, zzzzzzzzzz.

Here he is as a much younger fellow and with a bent pipe. He was still working his fields with mules up until the ealry 80's. I work those same fields now, but not with mules. :puffy:

That's a great looking Starfire. I'm on the hunt for a pick axe. That picture of your uncle looks like it's right out of the Wild West.

It's great you have one of your uncles pipes Cosmic ! It's one of the "Continental" series that was started in the early to mid 60's--IIRC.

I love the starfire shape. It's one of my many favorites from Dr. Grabow. :D

And if you check this thread out again ejames, Thank you for the help and advice with my dads Grabow. I was kind of hard headed and didn't accept your help to begin with and came nearly broke the stem before doing what you told me to try, and go figure It Worked!! So thanks for the help and sorry for the pig headedness. :)

You're quite welcome HG95 ! I've restored, repaired,or refinished hundreds of Grabows. Picked up a trick or two along the way. Glad to help.

Dr Grabow Emperor with natural briar finish. I've been searching for an Emperor for quite a while. ejames (Ed) was kind enough to let this beauty out of his collection. ejames is one hell of a guy! The Emperor was a coupon pipe. One of the highest grade Grabow's. Made from flawless briar without any fills and non stained natural briar finish.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoFa5UXgVOk&feature=player_detailpage

I'm liking my Grabows so much I'm always looking for more on ebay.
Here's a Belvedere I picked up for just a few bucks. Boy, was this pipe a mess, completely clogged and wouldn't pass a pipe cleaner. Using much Everclear, pipe cleaners and a dental pick I finally cleared the airway.
There's still a lot of work to do on the cosmetics, such as a ashtray burn on the stem. For now it's completely functional and ready to join the 21st century. I've got a "Supreme Briar" coming as well.

I got this Viscount yesterday in just the opposite condition of the Belvedere in the above post. It arrived in brand new condition. It's never been smoked! Just a bit of oxidation on the stem. Sometimes I get lucky.
