I used to think that Laaa-tuh-kee-uh was pronounced Luh-taack-eee-uh until I heard my local tobacconist pronounce Latakia out loud, I felt like a big dummy!

Dr. Grabow is pronounced "Grey-Bow", not "Grab-oh" as I called it back in the early 90's.

Radice is pronounced ra-DEE-chay, the E has the long A sound in Italian. The I has a long E sound. Il ragazzo, i ragazzi; la ragazza, le ragazze. Eccolo cui.

I'm Australian so I pronounce almost everything differently for most people I deal with. Tulip is "chew lip", water is war tah. Duel and jewel sound identical. But Mary, Marry and Merry are all different in an Australian accent while every Canadian I have met say them exactly the same.

I mispronounced 'Radice' as "Ray-diss", too, until I learned better, I also said "Dess-kar-tees" for 'DesCartes'; and "Cant" for 'Kant', until I learned German. Now I cringe when I hear someone say "Girdle" for 'Goedel' (don't have the umlauted o to type the name correctly). But who says "Ahheen-shtahheen" for 'Einstein' even though that's correct? I don't. But 'Wittgenstein', I give the German pronounciation. French, I don't have a clue unless I've heard it. How does one correctly pronounce 'Chacom'? I say "Cha-kom". Should it be "Sha-ko"?
