That's pretty much how i did it for decades. I decided to "cellar" very late in the game, which is why I don't have deep piles of extinct blends to gouge you with. But the continuing disappearances of blends without warning, changes to blends that crapped them up, and an increasingly unfriendly regulatory environment changed all that. Couple that with an interest in smoking a wider range of blends and I now have a cellar, relatively small, but amble for my needs.
Besides, Los Angeles is a pipe tobacco desert. All of our wonderful pipe shops are gone. It's all cigars here.
