We all know about PAD and TAD but I got to thinking; what's the ratio between the number of pipes, number of tobaccos (blends and vessels) and years of pipe smoking. Purely curoisity driven, but I think it would be interesting to see if as there a correlation between years of pipe smoking and aquisitions. It'd be interesting to put the data in a spreadsheet and see what stats come out.

Let's not get too scientific here but lets be consistent:
Years of pipe smoking is at your discretion and how you personally define it.
Number of pipes is the number of smokeable pipes (even if they are unsmoked displays, cheapos or horrid smokers)
Number of Tobaccos is two fold.
1. # of different tobaccos, excluding multples of the same
2. # of vessels of tobacco in your collection/cellar

Pipes and tobacco counts are what you currently have on hand in your personal collection (or incoming the mail).

For me its:
18 years;
22.5 pipes (half pipe is an extra bowl for the Falcon);
25 blends in;
39 vessels (tins/pouches/jars etc)

Your turn!

dabbled with pipes in college. probably acquired 3-4 basket pipes and a couple named factory pipes (gefapip, gbd). a couple ounces of tobacco i still have from this time

dabbled with pipes the 90s. acquired my first 'nice' pipes (savinelli, Blatter, and a gifted custom made by a friend). had half a tin left from then (3 year matured, now consumed).

finally took it up with gusto a couple years ago when unboxed my father's collection of pipes, cleaned/restored a number of them, and bought a few more used and new cobs, briars and meers. And started buying tobacco with gusto (it isn't going to be any cheaper).

Now, don't know number of pipes.. all in guessing somewhere around 60-70ish including unsmoked cobs and clays and as yet unrestored pipes from my father's box.

I have a comprehensive spreadsheet however for tobacco. at current consumption rates, have about 21 years worth, across 78 brands (and uncounted blends within that). I've now sated pad and tad, with many delights to discover in my hoard. i don't expect to consume it all, and very possible i fall out of the regular habit at some point, or even smoking altogether.

Am I atypical? (My wife thinks so!) You are welcome to plug whatever numbers from that which make sense to you into your worksheet. puffy

30 years on and off. And for 25 of those years, I managed to get by nicely only buying basket pipes from local tobacconists. Gone are those days…

This forum changed my mind about Estate Pipes and I’ve since amassed a modest collection of some 30 pipes, with a penchant for BBB, GBD classic Billiards. I have 6 beautifully grained BBB’s and I still seek these out. I almost bought a 1965 BBB Christmas pipe. But I couldn’t justify buying it and someone mercifully snapped it up.

I have many Stanwell, Royal Danish, Parker, Kaywoodie, Dunhill and even two nice Meers.

I don’t smoke them all. So I’m not keen on adding any more.

I’m content.

We talking 40 years of pipe smoking?

I'll split the difference and call it 65 pipes how bout.

Sounds like an incredible collection! 21 years worth at what kind of rate? couple bowls a day? 78 brands is what i'll use!

Picked up the pipe a little over three years ago. I’ve got a dozen pipes with nine of them being regularly used. I’ve collected around 300 tins of tobacco and maybe 12-15 pounds of bulk. And I can’t even begin to guess at the number of blends. It’s a mess. And I love it.
Quite the collection for only 3 years!

Sixty years smoking pipes, cigarettes, cigars and the occasional chaw. Never more than thirty pipes and I don't hoard tobacco. I smoke what I know, only trying a new blend rarely.
Awesome. Kudos for keeping it simple! My great grandfather was that way and I always appreciated it. He was a one pipe and one tobacco man as long as I knew him. His pipe and a bag of Amphora Original sits on my mantle as a reminder not to overcomplicate everything.

When I came to the forum, I had only been smoking a pipe for 3-5 years, and I’ve been here like 11 years. Sorry, I didn’t mark my start date down as an anniversary or anything.
I have 132 pipes now. I smoke almost all of them.
I had about 50 pounds by my first year as a forum member. When I moved my cellar to my studio, I calculated that I had 246lbs of store bought tobaccos. And 150lbs of home grow blends. I stopped growing last year, but I have no idea how many years I was growing. There is a start thread on here somewhere.

As far as how many different blends I have set back, phhhht… don’t care enough to dig through all of them boxes of jars and counting. I also don’t keep up with what I’ve smoked out of the cellar, nor what I still keep adding. I did throw away a bunch recently, all the GH stuff and Esoterica stuff. But, I’ve since added several boxes of more C&D stuff. These days, I only buy their products. It would be like doing a corporate inventory, so… no
