Down the end of a lonely country road that more than a fair share of thieves have gone missing on and been buried in the hills. How do I know this, still got the shovel.
Touche'! Still got the shovel and the blisters eh?
Everything to do with tobacco in Australia is painful. I'm surprised our tobacco stocks aren't catalogued and need to hold a smokers licence, its nearly that bad here.
The sad part is, you ain't far from the truth of where were headed it seems!

Maybe 140 pipes, about 100 of them Family Era Barlings, ranging from 1882 to 1962, and an assortment of others.
Tobaccos? Maybe 130 lbs. A stupid amount for me . I pretty much stopped buying a few years ago.
Most of it is D&R, McClelland, Esoterica, GL Pease, HU, Watch City, Rattray’s, Solani, MacBaren, St Bruno, a small amount of C&D, and other flotsam and jetsam.

I love the fact that pipes from 1882 (nearing 150 years) are still owned and enjoyed in 2024!

Really? I need to kick my TAD in gear!
It's just based on consumption. I can sometimes go through 2 pounds per month. Most was bought prior to 2018 when many blends were still under $5/ounce and Mac Baren 1 pound boxes hadn't hit the $40 mark. All of my 100g McClelland tins were purchased during sales when they were under $15/tin. Try to hit sales when you can. Retirement has brought all acquisitions to an end but I can rest knowing there will be tobacco in the closet when i want it.

whats the "infinity blend"?
Well, it started with an English that I didn’t really like, but I just add the leftover scraps of tobacco that won’t fit in my pipe after I dry what I need. I also add the little bit from the bottom of tins that isn’t enough to completely fill my pipe.

So basically it’s an ever evolving mixture of tobaccos that I smoke infrequently and when I need a knock around smoke that I don’t really care to concentrate on enjoying. I also add the clipped caps from cigars to spice it up.

I imagine shipping to Australia is killer too?
IF you can get anyone to ship to you in Oz !
SmokingPipes won’t ship tobacco to Oz.
Nor will any retailer in the UK or the EU.
4Noggins is the only US retailer still shipping to Oz (that I know of). But one has to run the Oz Customs gauntlet.
You can apply for an Oz Customs to Import Tobacco for Own Use. The excise on tobacco is currently AUD$1.90 per gram 😳
Yes, you read that correctly - that is NOT a mistake !

The shipping cost is peanuts in comparison

When I came to the forum, I had only been smoking a pipe for 3-5 years, and I’ve been here like 11 years. Sorry, I didn’t mark my start date down as an anniversary or anything.
I have 132 pipes now. I smoke almost all of them.
I had about 50 pounds by my first year as a forum member. When I moved my cellar to my studio, I calculated that I had 246lbs of store bought tobaccos. And 150lbs of home grow blends. I stopped growing last year, but I have no idea how many years I was growing. There is a start thread on here somewhere.

As far as how many different blends I have set back, phhhht… don’t care enough to dig through all of them boxes of jars and counting. I also don’t keep up with what I’ve smoked out of the cellar, nor what I still keep adding. I did throw away a bunch recently, all the GH stuff and Esoterica stuff. But, I’ve since added several boxes of more C&D stuff. These days, I only buy their products.
Appreciate you sharing!
It would be like doing a corporate inventory, so… no
Fair enough. Ain't nobody here to do that!

40 plus years of pipe smoking.
60 plus current pipes in stock - 40 in rotation.
Number of Blends - Maybe 50 - 7 of which are my own blends and constitute the majority of my stock of 60 plus pounds which is way more than I want - I rarely buy new blends and now focus on making my own blends - based on a classical formula very similar to how one composes musical chords - which I find to be a universal way of doing things - sort of like the golden proportions. Nature is extremely efficient in how it works.

I was wrong. I don't feel you pain on the taxes front. That is absolutely insane. I's say your previous valuation is low when you take into accound all the rigamorale required to procure it!
