OK guys, thread resurrection. I got to a point where I just did not know where to go other than it just did not look right. It was the top of the "bowl". I just did not know what I wanted to do with it. Sorry for being a flake but if I dont know where to go then I wait until it comes to me. Well it came, 1st handmade bit from ebonite rod.
This will probably be the only EF I ever make as it was a challenge, I do think it is looking good though.

Finally got the elephant's foot done. This was a lot of work and really tested me. So much so that I had to put it down while I figured out what to do next as I just did not have it all worked out when I started it. I actually picked up some wood specifically for this pipe. As Scrooge had to wait a while I made my 1st hand cut stem for this pipe. I like how it turned out.

I don't see why this shape is called an elephant's foot. Looks more like a pick axe to me, generally.

Either way you do see it, you see guys taking the pipe hobby to the next level and actually making their own pipes.

I appreciate your willingness to subject yourselves to forum scrutiny.

I can't quite get that junction of shank to stem out of the realm of disproportion on your pipe Adam, in my 'eye'.

Someday, if I live long enough, I'll tackle making a pipe too. You guys are an inspiration and generous with your learning process.

Thanks guys!

Mike

@ newbroom, you are correct in the similarities of the elephant's foot/pick axe, just like the poker/tankard. That being said there are differences.
Per https://pipedia.org/wiki/Glossary
Elephant's Foot: A pipe shape originally created by Bo Nordh and characterized by straight grained side panels and wide front and back domed surfaces on the bowl exhibiting birdseye.
Pickaxe: According to the A.S.P. Pipe Parts Charts by Bill Burney, the pickaxe is a freehand style of pipe characterized by a paneled, triangular bowl.

Recd. some tampers in the mail yesterday that looked like they would work with the bamboo I like to use so much. I like how it turned out. 40 cal case on one end. Other has the removable pic. Of course pics or it did not happen. This one goes with the EF to scrooge for being so easy to work with.
