Winter Weather Challenge

Fellow pipers here in Houston it’s 28 degrees, cloudy, and windy and while I could suit up in winter clothing for a smoke I just don’t care for the cold. If it were sunshine and no wind I would but not today.

I am sure I am a wimp compared to all of you in North US, Canada, Scandinavia, etc.

Made me think what is everyone’s temp limits to getting in a smoke (if outside smoker) ?

We are into the negatives in Illinois now. In the garage no problems but, I did have a clay at -9 outside at work. I slow down but I'll still get a couple bowls in a day.

As I get older I really hate the cold. I dont know how it came to this... /sadface.
I was just in my unheated garage it was probably 35-38 degrees. Indulged in a 40 minute session with some 7 yr old jarred up Boswell Northwoods. It was very dry but delicious and burned to a nice ash in my Sav.
By the end, my feet were getting cold. I need to order some shearling lined booties.
I probably wouldn't have a smoke if it was any colder.

I built a smoking room in my basement so I didn't have to worry about this question...

However, I have smoked a pipe outside at 0° on more than one occasion.

I used to love the cold when I was a kid. Now, not so much. I can handle it okay for a smoke if it’s not too windy. I had a smoke today earlier and it was 26 degrees. I’ll probably have another one later.

I'm a few hours north of you @Old_Newby, and I was able to tolerate some time out ithere with a Coleman lantern and a good book. But if it gets to the point where a wool blanket on my lap won't do the trick, I'm staying in. I spent years up in snow country, nothing to prove! lol

I thought that Texas law prohibited temperatures below 40-degrees Fahrenheit?

To keep warm outside you could always try the old hunter's kink of sitting on a stool with a lighted kerosene lantern on the ground beneath your legs, and a horse blanket over the top of them. This works surprisingly well.

I had a bowl of Figgy Pudding while the kids played in the snow yesterday. It was about 3*F where we are in OK.

Very lucky in Sydney, Oz where it rarely gets below 10 C on a winter’s afternoon.
It’s the heat (>30 C) and humidity in summer that stops me from going out for a bowl

25F in the sun with no wind is my lowest. Typically, once it goes below 41, I won't sit out to smoke as much.

Yeah pretty much the same here, sunday morning killed hundreds of people's car batteries in my neighborhood (including my wife's, who was parked behind me blocking me in).

Ugh, it’s just not fun. I haven’t been out since Friday. Just no! Cars are probably dead even if I felt like shoveling and scraping and going anywhere.

-20 when I was visiting Montreal some years back. These days, probably not lower than 25˚.
