If cigar bugs come out of cigar, wouldn't a bug coming out of pipe tobacco be pipe bugs? Then there's that question of bugs being smoked with tobacco, what's the concern for the health issue. I seriously doubt it will add to protein intake, but could it increase the chance of lung cancer, perhaps colon cancer?

I had one experience with tobacco beetles and Cuban cigars. If temperature and humidity conditions are right (I believe that would be in the area of 72 degrees and 72 percent humidity) the eggs will hatch and the beetles will bore holes in the cigars making them worthless. I now keep all of my cigars in storage in my basement where the temperature doesn't get high enough for the eggs to hatch. Haven't tried the freezing technique.

Were they tasty?

camaguey, why not introduce yourself, and put your location in your Profile?

How: Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. province, etc.

I have found tobacco beetles in a bulk blend, but never in a tin.
Same here. Almost always from a decrepit, off the main track, un-air conditioned, dusty countered, half-assed "tobacconist" with an attitude and three pipes in the window bleaching from the sun. These joints no longer exist as such to my knowledge, but were rampant in the '70s and beyond. (I used to travel a lot, and liked to drop in to soak up local atmosphere. Never once did I take a shiv in the gut or anything else deleterious, other than cold stares.)

One exception: a prestigious tobacconist in Manhattan that will remain nameless, due to its current iteration. Saw the bugs and eggs and couldn't believe my eyes. But the owners were getting old, were non-smokers, and ready to bail. Scheiss happens.
