Why Only Simple & Absurd "Counterfeit" Pipes Exist --- An Explanation

As you can see, the lettering on the stamping seems to be double stamped or definitely messed up

I've had many brand new Peterson's with wonky stamping. Sometimes looks half sanded off, sometimes double stamped, etc. Not unusual in the slightest.

Someone posted for sale a pipe with a white dot stem, stamped only "Not for Sale." Briarlee bought it and thinks it's a real Dunhill. Or something like that.

I corrected my post. Briarlee does not think the "Not for Sale" pipe is a fake Dunhill, but a real one. I'm not following the SON posts enough to know what the deal is. Bizarre indeed.

Are you intimating that you otherwise buy from disreputable sources?

If it is just going to be a beater/smoker, an eBay estate will do, and if the listing says Peterson and the final bid is 15 dollars AND it smokes well, who cares! I’ve never contemplated the stamp on the side of a pipe…

This is the best troll of this site since starcat. Quite hilarious if you ask me. It drew in some of the top level experts but in a way that made them argue against insanity, meaning a random bystander couldn't always tell the difference between the expert and the insane.

I enjoyed Briar Lee. Once I realized that he wasn't entirely what he represented I quite enjoyed him. Granted, I skimmed most of the posts since there was so much unrelated "color" in his postings, but I felt like I was watching cuts from Sergeant York whenever he posted.

When the "Dunhill" showed up, it got even more absurd. But you have to admit that that pipe was the most genuinely honest dishonest fake seen here in many a year, a wonder to behold.

And I even got to make reference to George Washington Plunkett, one of America's greatest statesmen.
