I'm not really supposed to go into details but Subaru bought back my brand new factory ordered Impreza Sport.
That's how good it was as a vehicle!

Rarely see those on the road here. It's all Outbacks, Foresters, and now Ascents. It's like a cult following here, I have little personal experience with them, although my wife drives an Ascent and swears by it. She selected her own mommy-mobile and I'd much rather roll with it than lose a ball or two. It certainly is better than my old dumpy ass Jetta that's for sure, hahaha.

Subarus seems to have a cult following in North Carolina also. I have never even seen a dealership here, but in NC, I am pretty sure it's required to own one to buy land.

Just because you see a truck on the road without something in it doesn't mean that guy doesn't go camping or haul canoes or bikes on the weekend.
That's another couple of reasons I switched to a van. I camp (tent) and I slept in my van once during a storm with high winds. I also like to take my bike to different trails and got tired of having to worry about someone stealing my bike if I stopped somewhere on my way home.

having to worry about someone stealing my bike if I stopped somewhere on my way home.
I lock my bikes to the rack.
But, we rented a large cargo van one time to drive to NC to pick up some antiques from my wife's mother's estate. We camped out in the van, and it was rather nice. We talked about outfitting a van for camping, which led to talking about a camper, which led us back to why we like tents... so we just keep on tenting. We've only had the weather get bad enough to check into a hotel once... so far our luck has held.

...and again, so what? If someone wants to drive a Hummer, it's their prerogative... without having to be in the Army. Or, if they want to drive a Volvo without having any kids... or, if someone wants to drive an old mail truck.

The question was why they cost less to make? I offered that they probably don't cost less to make. They have a higher resell, holding their value more than cars, and the insurance is less. My gas mileage is less than an SUV. It weighs less than most cars, and they are fun to drive. Also, my tires cost less than the low profiles most new cars use, and all of the parts are cheaper because they have changed so little over the years, also making the vehicle last longer. I think this is why we will keep seeing them on the market long after these ugly ass car designs fail in sales.

There you go. I don't have to use it as a truck to know that a truck is just the better decision. You may drive what you want.
resale would have zero impact in any production cost.
they probably cost less because the whole ass end is just box metal.

an interior is the most expensive part of a car.

and I am not singling you out at all .. sorry to pick at a dead carcass. I just get fed up with people driving huge vehicles they don't need.. if anything they should have to pay more tax on the vehicle. Same with homes.. I don't feel anyone regardless of how rich they are needs a home the size of an apartment building. These types of purchases are often caused by underlying psychological issues.

When my daughter's VW got hit, they told us that the doors on a vehicle were the most expensive and heaviest parts, outside of the drive-train. So, a dent in her door totaled the thing, ha ha. It made us a nervous mess, because she had just paid it off.
So, maybe the lack of doors makes a truck cheaper to produce. I know that it makes my truck lighter than my wife's Ford Ecosport.

For many years, I started out with American brand dealerships every time. Sometimes, the vehicles didn't grab me, but several times the sales people just wouldn't deal. After my first car, a VW bug, I tried to look at a compact Buick, and I swear the guy wouldn't even let me test drive. He didn't say why; didn't like my looks, I guess. Another time, I tried to buy a special edition Oldsmobile, and the guys in the used car area said they wouldn't buy an American car without extra warranty coverage. When I tried to look at a Mercury Sable, the two salesmen, all duked up in fedoras and expensive overcoats, were so enthralled in conversation, they didn't want to stop to talk to a customer. Then I went up the street to showrooms for Japanese brands, and they treated me like Mr. VIP, and in one case, at closing time, the salesman came out with brochures and spent time with me. Something wrong with the sales force at American dealerships over many years, or so it seems to me. I was ready, willing, and could afford the product, but they either wouldn't talk to me or warned me against it. If I wanted an American car today, I might look at Jeep, but I presume they'd ask me to leave the dealership.

I spent a significant part of my career involved with the automotive industry. It has very little if nothing to do with lower costs to produce trucks. There's simply less competition so they can sell them for more. The Korean's and Japanese dominate the small and medium size sedan market. The margins suck.

You read like a beaureubrat making policy as to what people should own or drive. Are you a government plant? puffy
nope but some people on here (not naming names) are obviously on nicotine withdrawal symptoms 24/7!

Next you'll be telling people they shouldn't smoke simply because they desire to. Shouldn't people be allowed to spend their moneys as they wish without someone playing social arbiter?
So you're the guy who drives a pickup but never needs it?

Damn! You're absolutely ... wrong. Again! I do not begrudge anyone spending their hard earned moneys however they see fit. And, I'm always suspect of people who want to tell others how best to live their lives and spend their money, But, I suppose you know what's best for others what with your degree in psychology.

These types of purchases are often caused by underlying psychological issues.
Really! Free diagnosis over the inter-web. Thank you! Thank you!

This diagnosis is not free you will receive a bill.

I didn’t realize that because of my postings I had caused people to lose their trucks and also render them unavailable for purchase.

you don’t like my opinion? You know what to do with it. ;)

I'm 6'4" and a solid 200.

I like trucks for a lotta reasons but, the singlemost is that I can get my big arse in and out of 'em a lot easier than any car I've ever demo'd. That and the fact that, to me, they are a helluva lot more funner to drive.

And, yea, me and the neighbors tote stuff in that ass end quite often. So, there is that.

I wasn't aware you were posting only your opinions. They look to be declaratory statements and seemed to cry out for citations. Sorry I mistook your "opinions" for statement of fact. You made no distinction so I thought the best. My mistake. Mea culpa.
