I've only been really actively pipe smoking for a year so I'm still not 100% settled on my rotation, but what I have learned is that as much as I wanted to be a Virginia guy I am sadly not a Virginia guy. Every Virginia and VaPer I've tried bites the heck out of me, and all the English blends I've had do as well.

What does seem to work for my mouth chemistry is aromatics and Burley blends, I think I've only ever had two aros bite me (Sutliff Strawberry Delight and 4th Generation Morning Blend, both of which are bright Virginia based) and I've never had a Burley blend bite me at all. I am still on the fence about whether or not I actually like the earthy nutty flavors of Burley, so at this point I'd say with some apprehension...

I seem to be an aro guy, and potentially a Burley guy.

@Skippy B. Coyote once you have callouses on your tongue and a huge protrusion of nasal hair everything will be good. Nothing will offer tongue bite and no spice will tickle the nostrils no matter how hard you try. You will look back and say "how did I smoke that vanilla aromatic" as you quietly chug through some Samual Gawith No 4 brown rope.

I'm pretty sure my tongue already has the surface texture of well tanned leather after a year of abusing it with various Virginia flakes, and if it was going to develop a resistance to the acidity of Virginia tobaccos it probably would have by now! 🤪

So, I'm just gonna sit here puffing this Haunted Bookshop and try to convince myself that I enjoy the slightly acrid Burley aftertaste. There are worse things in life than being a Burley guy.puffy

Not to beat a dead horse but Haunted Bookshop has Bright Va in it and a lot of people can get bit by Bright VA some Red Va, wondering if you have tried any VaBurs like say Solani Silver Flake it is really great Burley with just enough orange/Red Va to give some tingle and Sweetness and if you Like Haunted Bookshop you might try Sunday Picnic its got Perique, Oriental and Virginia ...

Primarily English/Balkan blends followed by Virginia blends. Occasionally, I'll have an aromatic, but I only smoke a select few aro's. Rarely I'll have a burley blend, and only if I'm feeling daring will I have a Lakeland.
