It is very likely, as pointed out by jackswilling, that the dispute is a Trademark dispute. In all honesty, I am surprised that it took this long. The first time I saw that tobacco I wondered how they were able to use the name. I've never tried Pike Place, but for all of you, I hope they can reach an agreement or market the same tobacco under a new name. I'm curious why they chose the name Pike Place, as I don't see any tie to the area with the tobacco.

It was going to be a blend of the cheapest tobaccos that I could find, soaked with just enough sweet alcohols to make you not care that you were over charged.
Doesn't Lane already do this? 8O

Connection? Seattle Pipe Club Blends connection to Pike Place? I should think it obvious. The company has used Pacific Northwest landmarks and locations fairly often over the years for their small batch blends. Mount Rainier, Pioneer Square, and Snoqualmie Falls, Columbia River, come to mind. Pike Place is internationally known, particularly the Market with salmon flying through the air.
Cosmic: Try Red Lobsterish. That might slide by the corporate henchmen.

With the FDA it is simply unlikely to return unless it returns as "Pike Place."

Would be nice as it is a super awesome Buley based Balkan.

I don't see it returning, unfortunately.

Pike Place Market might agree to allowing use of the name. Maybe for a percentage or a flat fee. Since Seattle Pipe Club Blends markets small batch production blends, my guess is, the blend will simply disappear.

Just to explain for those who haven't been to Seattle and don't know about it otherwise, Pike Place Market is a partly open-air fish market that also sells many other products like produce and has other retail and restaurant on or near the premises. One tradition associated with the place, if I recall correctly, is for the fish mongers to throw the fish through the air to place them on ice for sale (someone catches them and places them). I'm not sure it is where Starbucks started, but I think it was one of the beginnings of premium coffee brewing shops associated with Seattle.
Other must-sees in Seattle are the underground walking tour (the city was built-up and earlier structures have been buried but are accessible), the ferry boat across the sound to Bremerton, for example, and the museum of art which has many great collections including Inuit and other indigenous northwestern peoples.

Just checked -- Starbucks did start at Pike Place Market originally selling premium coffee beans. The coffee shop concept came later.

On P&C, this is one more reason not to buy from that site any more. I made my last several purchases at SP, and they haven't let me down.

With the latest 10 or so blends that just came out, Pike Place won't be missed.
Or it's been renamed and hasn't been discovered yet :)

So sad. Alas,in today's world it's all about money and who is the best. Such a sad state of affairs. I do grow weary of it all.

Money good. Need bad. Competition means better pipes, more blends so, employment and gain for many. And so, a better life for the pipe smoker. Go out and buy a pouch, spread the wealth so that others can benefit. I get personal enjoyment in participating in the great economic experiment.
Shake off your lethargy, find some energy and get in the game. Make as much money as you possibly can. Don't hoard it though. Spread it around to others who might need it and will use it well. You might feel better.

Hah! What's in a name? Plenty of course. Maybe the Market folks would allow an asterisk saying "Not related to the oh-so-wholesome and yuppie Pike Place Market".
And what about Colorado suing the Market?? Mr. Pike has a famous peak there, and should have first dibs on his name.
And, if the pike or Pike is a fish, are there really wall-eyes in Seattle? (other than some of the folks)??

The street is named after John Pike a early settler and builder of Seattle . The Pikes Peak is named after Zebulon Pike American explorer .
