This thread is for before and after pics of the "What's Under That Grabow" restoration contest.
• Only one pipe per person can be entered, if you restored more than one please post the others in the original thread.
• This thread is not for discussions, let's keep it manageable. Any talk about the pics can be on the other thread.
• Please do not vote until Oct. 15, then post the name of the Grabow you think is the best. All entries must be posted by the 15th
• The winner of the contest will receive a collectors edition Grabow that has been graciously donated by the Vice President of International Pipes and Accessories LLC.
Goodluck everyone, Can't wait to see those pics.

What criteria will constitute the winner? Is it simply the nicest looking pipe? Or, maybe the biggest delta between before / after? Both?

Both, of course it will be whoever gets the most votes, hopefully members will look at difficulty of restoration and quality of work.

Ok, I'll be the first to enter! I got in on a technicality (thanks to Uperik and Dave G). I picked up this Dr. Grabow Meerscaum Lined pipe on Friday, for a cool $8. But, it has no Spade on the stem. Dave G tells me that Meerschaum lined pipes, made before 1989 were imported from Italy and did not have the Spade stem logo. So, Uperik approved my entry. Unfortunatley, the meerschaum lining was shot, so I just removed it. I leave for Louisiana in a few days, so the pipe is just a styling exercise for the time being.
Full details are here, at a Reborn Pipes blog entry:

Here's my submission, a Dr Grabow Starfire. The rim was a complete mess and I had to top it to do anything with it. It makes a for a nice short smoke now.

Here's mine, I wanted one of these Buckos since Ejames mentioned them to me. It needed very little work but was the only untouched estate Grabow I had. Some very nice grain was hiding under there.

Each of you guys has been true to the contest title, showing what's under that Grabow...some really nice grain reveal so far! Dave...that Grand Duke went from dull to gorgeous...including the taper job on that rim.

Thanks Joe. You’re the first to notice the rim. Either that, or everybody’s tired of me butchering flat top rims. :x
