I use a zippo with pipe insert. Although this might be an unpopular opinion but I feel like it’s a little high maintenance. Always needs more fuel and mine takes a couple strikes of the wheel before it wants to light a lot of times no matter how I repack the wick and Cotton. But they have great customer service so I’ll continue to use it.

Also inherited a nimrod that this forum helped me identify as I had no idea what I had. I look forward to getting plenty of use out of it. IMG_8577.jpeg

I have the Old Boy set on a med/high flame for initial lights and reaching into deeper chambers mid smoke and the Pipemaster set to a low flame for most touch up and relight smokes.

Most of my smoking is at home at my station in the command bunker or at pipe club. When I do venture out, I will grab the Scripto with the "mini tube", similar to the Clipper.

I only smoke outside so appreciate the windproof quality of Zippos, plus I inherited a bunch from my dad. The entire "collection" is on the top row. Anyone that happens to be in my pocket works to light a pipe, but if I know lighting pipes is in the schedule the four on the bottom row get the nod.

Zippo, matches, Old Boy, Pipemaster, Dupont Ligne 2, Kiribi, Hemp Wick, Rollagas, Beattie, Crocs, Bic, Bic EZ Reach, occasionally a cigar lighter, and probably several others that I've forgotten about. I'll use just about anything capable of igniting tobacco that doesn't damage the pipe.

I use the XIKAR Resource II most of the time. I own many lighters including Zippos with pipe inserts, but I rely heavily on the XIKAR.
I enjoy my Old Boy, but you are right, it is hard to beat a Xikar Resource. Reliable light and all the tools right there built in.

Bog standard Clipper. I have a Peterson pipe lighter that can only be described as a lovely thing but that I only use occasionally for fear of dropping it. Madness, but there we are. As I get more ancient I'm becoming clumsy. The Clipper does the same job without the worry.

I also use the Zippo pipe lighter. Mine has a brass case.

Have you found a way to avoid the ridiculously gigantic flame when you first go to use it?

TBH that's why I don't use my Zippo! Just the thing for scorching rims. Suppose you get the hang of it after a while but I don't need the hassle when there are less ferocious methods of setting fire to something inches from my nose hair...
