Currently a Zippo because it was handy and all my bics died and I haven't replaced them. Matches are good but inconvenient for several reasons. Someday I may acquire one of those vintage Beattie's. I was using a Djeep but was surprised it didn't last as long as a Bic and the striker was harder to operate than Bic (stiffer).
Right after I wrote the above the Zippo ran out of fuel and I had to use Diamond Greenlight Kitchen match to light my pipe. Excellent coverage fully lit across top of bowl one light ... but ... no wind. But I can't carry around a huge box of matches everywhere.

It kinda depends on the situation! If I'm smoking outdoors then I'm using a Zippo pipe lighter 9 times out of 10, but I always carry a BIC in my pocket and if there's no wind or I'm indoors then I prefer to use the BIC since it doesn't impart any additional flavor to those first few puffs after lighting. Though if it's late at night and I'm able to lounge around the house and really relax and take my time smoking then I like using stick matches, since they make for a more slow paced old timey feel and I weirdly enjoy the sulfur aroma from lighting them and the woodsy flavor the matchsticks impart to the smoke.puffy

As an aside, have any of you ever lighted your pipe with one of these magnifying lenses? I used to use one when I did historical reenacting impressions. On a sunny day, you'd be amazed at how well this works...

I wonder if @HalfDan I mean @The Clay King has used this method or if he relies solely upon blacksmiths to light his pipe when reenacting?

Nowadays a Zippo with a Zippo Butane insert, best from over 50yrs of Pipe Smoking, tried everything over the years, nothing lasts as long as a Zippo, not even matches, done them for years, crap in English weather.
I also have a zippo with the pipe insert. I installed the plastic bottom which is supposed to conserve the life of the fluid, but I still have trouble with it evaporating out after a few days. Just brings about a hassle to the process.
