Right after I wrote the above the Zippo ran out of fuel and I had to use Diamond Greenlight Kitchen match to light my pipe. Excellent coverage fully lit across top of bowl one light ... but ... no wind. But I can't carry around a huge box of matches everywhere.Currently a Zippo because it was handy and all my bics died and I haven't replaced them. Matches are good but inconvenient for several reasons. Someday I may acquire one of those vintage Beattie's. I was using a Djeep but was surprised it didn't last as long as a Bic and the striker was harder to operate than Bic (stiffer).
I wonder ifUsually one of these soft flame lighters. Xikar and I M Corona....

As an aside, have any of you ever lighted your pipe with one of these magnifying lenses? I used to use one when I did historical reenacting impressions. On a sunny day, you'd be amazed at how well this works...

I also have a zippo with the pipe insert. I installed the plastic bottom which is supposed to conserve the life of the fluid, but I still have trouble with it evaporating out after a few days. Just brings about a hassle to the process.Nowadays a Zippo with a Zippo Butane insert, best from over 50yrs of Pipe Smoking, tried everything over the years, nothing lasts as long as a Zippo, not even matches, done them for years, crap in English weather.
