IMO heavy metal listeners are just hippies that hate the other hippies, ha ha. Punks, the same. I've worn a tie my whole damned life. I grew up about as square as square can be. Never drank, never even seen drugs. They are like a myth, Big Foot. I've seen them in movies and such.
Of course I don't, but other people like me, call anyone who is not like us, hippies. And, it makes us laugh even more to hear them argue how they are not, further proving that they are. So,it just cracks me up to think that someone would think there's a difference between being a rocker or a hippie or a hipster or a biker... We're all just damned people. Get over you're weird category thing. ...because someone is out there pointing a finger at you and laughing about something.
And, I think that golf thing is awesome. I wonder if there are any cowboy golfers out there. That is something I could get into. Strap a golf bag to my horse and play a round.

Punks and Metal Heads and Hippies are not the same. They just appear the same because they are all equally distant from where you stand.
Nothing against where you stand, mind you.
Glad you don't label, but why did you use 'us' when 'your "like" people' laugh at the so called hippies?
By your own admission your clique (and maybe you) point fingers and laugh so...
I guess you were absolutely right in that we are all Human.
And I have golfed in a cowboy hat, not sure that it makes me a cowboy golfer though...
LOL

It's irony. Of course I am guilty of making fun of a hippie. My example of the two guys working on my air conditioner was the tip off.
Ain't no differences between any of us. I can laugh at those who are laughing at those who are laughing at someone else for being different. It's all the same.

I'm 29yrs old and still have no clue what a hipster is.
I guess as long as they're not hoarding up some of the really good blends it's okay that they're "accessorising" with a pipe.

Except for the construction worker helmets those guys have on, ha ha.
I think those are supposed to be ironic.
Here's irony for you -- I honestly don't even know what "hipster" is, but I'm fixin' to google it.

Oh oh, daimyo, I just looked at my avatar, I'm wearing glasses on my head, and I'm holding a Leica camera, while smoking a pipe. I still listen to records as much as CDs, and have never downloaded any music. I'm in my late 60s and live on a gravel road, so no more bike riding, but I used to own a fixed gear track bike in the 1980s. I suppose that all this makes me an inadvertent hipster. Shoot, I just figured I was a cranky old pipe smoking Luddite who was lucky to have a wife that puts up with me.
Oh crap, Patrick I've been using Holga cameras since 1993, and have amassed at least 5 of them, of various sorts. I like them because more and more they show me the world as I see it around me. Shoddy, out of focus and dark around the edges. No I don't have macular degeneration, and I'm not depressed, I just like the way the photos look. Another hipster nail in my coffin.

Are there "Female Hipsters"?
If so, do the women wear plaid, sport lumber jack beards, and have Aspergers style haircuts?

We've had this discussion before. People come to pipe smoking for a variety of reasons. Maybe their grandfather smoked a pipe. Maybe they like the scent. Maybe they think it looks cool, or bestows some patina of gravitas. And don't nobody tell me that looks don't matter. Were that the case, there would be no artisan movement.
Whatever the reason for taking up the pipe, if you enjoy it, then that's enough. Hipster, schmipster.

I could be considered a bit of a hipster as I smoke a pipe (not ironically), dress nicer than most of my peers (button ups, sweaters, ankle boots, chinos, ties, vests, etc.), I like flat caps and listen to music most people have never heard of (metal) ... but I don't talk about it nor do I act pretentiously. Hipster and Bohemian meet ironically and produce what we generally loathe and consider "hipster."
Buuuuut, they have also created a market that I am thankful for: better restaurants with creative menus, better coffees, better beers and making old stuff cool again
QFT cmdrmcbragg: ditto man. I wear scally caps or beanies, I have different beards at different times of the year. I like PBR (made hip by the Zac Brown band and hipsters everywhere) and craft beers. I like eating a places that are a little off the wall. I listen to all kinds of different metal bands, industrial bands. And I have been listening to the stuff since I can remember. Call me what you will but I am me...and I aint changing even if what I am into aint cool.

I'm 67 years old. This Fall I was speaking at a college when a young college girl called me a hipster. I was wearing my usual columbia treking shirt, columbia deep pockets pants, Merrill hiking boots, my hat was a stetson sturgis wool hat, and a spanish cob hung from my neck on a silver chain.
I didn't know if I should take that as a compliment.

Ok, I admit to having a Diana clone too, an Arrow. It's a bigger piece of crap than a Holga. I'm starting to like the idea of being a hipster. Sounds better than a misogynistic Luddite.
And just to add to the hipster image that I am apparently already have, I submit the prototype of an old Nikon I used for one of my tattoos.

Interesting fonts imitating some kind of asian characters but actually in English. Can you read it?

Back in the 70's and 80's I guess I was a hipster by some of these definitions. Now i'm just an old curmudgeon.
