Currently providing software support to the state department of transportation as a contractor. Prior to that, spent 12 years in various IT jobs from desktop support to systems administration at a museum. Before that, I worked for a bank in a couple of departments, learning just enough about computers to make the jump to IT just before the boom ended. Got the bank job as a result of temping, which I did after I quit my job as a security guard. During my college years, I worked in a couple of restaurants, a print shop, delivery driver, graded papers for a professor I admired. Spent 3 summers teaching basic marksmanship (both archery and riflery) at a Boy Scout camp. Did a bunch of other odd jobs during the summers, building a deck, painting houses, working fast food and landscape maintenance - and had a paper route from 6th grade through high school.
That about sums it up. :D

After 10 years with the only US made cellular manufacturer, I realized I hated my job and that I didn't need to work any more (proper investments). So in '99 (at age 30) I decided to cash it all in and take some time off. A little traveling, a couple moves around the country, watching the economy take a dump and "Bam"! At age 44 I'm now a stay at home dad. Never did go back to work.

I have been managing a service department at a Honda dealership for the last two years. Spent the 30 plus years before that working in Ford dealerships. My first position was pulling weeds and worked my way through the ranks. Have been managing for the last 22 years. Believe me I need a bowl by the end of the day.

Looking for FT work. During the past school years I have been a substitute teacher, have not been able to break into FT teaching except for 2 years then laid off. If no call this summer, then I will be looking to go back to the business world which I left 7 years ago to pursue teaching. Oh yeah, and on Monday I start at Dominos as a pizza delivery guy. I also have a phone interview for a FT position in the business world Monday as well. Got a little one on the way in Nov, our first, I have bad asthma and my wife HATES my pipe smoking. SOOO, I don't have to worry about "room note" cause I gotta smoke outside and when she's not around. Right now the basic agreement is "don't be stinky when she gets home"

Right now, I do absolutely nothing for a living. It is so blissful it was worth all those years of slavery, and is even worth being old.

Started as U.S. Navy radioman, then Navy journalist, then veterans benefits counselor. Then a writer editor

(Public Affair Specialist in the lingo) at the National Institutes of Health; then a Policy Analyst with the NIH.

Since high school, I've been a freelance writer publishing poetry, essays (columns, articles), and short stories.

One short story collection in print, and stories in Norton Anthologies. I'm retired from the federal government

but am still at it with the writing and publishing. Fascinating that nearly all of us feel we have to list our sequence

of jobs to explain how we earn a living; I think that's honest. Most of us move through a sequence of avatars

(in the Hindu sense of different shapes and forms) and that all of that is part of how we exist. It's true. Our

current source of income, or lack, doesn't explain who we are by a along shot. Life's a process.

In the material world, the bars of the invisible prison most of us are in for most of our lives are constructed out of time and money...it’s just that some cells are larger and more comfortable than others.

Unfortunately, most people tend to define themselves by their work/job/career. I’m not saying this is always bad or wrong or w/o meaning, but especially in the modern world, a great many of us have to do things “for a living” for the sole purpose of a paycheck. I think it’s very important to recognize that is not “who we are” as you point out.

Is it just me, or do we have a lot of military, IT and musician folks? IT myself...but almost became a professional musician.
