Today, Micallef Migdalia SE. I bought a bunch of these as well as the Migdalia Petite Corona on super sale. I've smoked a few and found them acidic-tart tasting (is this the Sumatra binder?). Today, after about 6 months humi time, they are wonderfully lemony-nutty.

Ah, about 200 miles west of you! Fishing for steelhead in the Brule River State Forest (WI)

*3 days, couldn't find a fish. Not uncommon. Beautiful weather, good smokes. Chance at 30" lake-run trout..
Nice area! I haven’t been up there since the mid-80s, but it’s always nice to see shots of the north woods.

Immaculate 1964 Maduro courtesy of @JoeW . Thanks, amigo! I almost never buy Padron maduros as I prefer the naturals, but this is insanely good with a flavor of dark chocolate-covered cherries.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it (and nice scenery)! I'm afraid that I'm not refined enough (yet) to get the flavor from the maduros: the naturals have a little more flavor kick to me. I will say, though, that these are my favorite of all the maduros I've had.

What a nice gesture @JoeW

Strange that both of you prefer the naturals. I do too.

Couple months ago I was at a shop- lots of maduro, almost no naturals. I asked if they had any more naturals and was literally asked "why?"

The Padron was part of a very generous trade--especially generous on the part of Mr. pantsBoots! I'm thankful that I could at least somewhat keep up! But even though maduros aren't my preference (over naturals), I'll never turn down a Padron of either sort: they're both very tasty.

There's a certain class of smoker that frequents cigar lounges that will only smoke the Maduro version if one is available. A friend and I years ago began to write a comedy sketch about these kind of guys (you're trying to enjoy your smoke, but they won't shut up about a woman they divorced 10 years ago; they always wear a polo shirt, khaki shorts, and either Crocs or patent leather loafers; etc), but we never got very far into it. One of their traits was they always smoke the strongest cigar, or the Maduro version, because que es Maduro? Maduro es "mature."

I guess you had to be there.

Naw I get it. There are some things about this hobby/ industry that are... a bit much sometimes

When my buddy and I were getting serious about learning, leaf stats, etc. we couldn't get over the "stories" that seem to be de rigeur for certain brands and releases. We'd sit in my garage and make up bullshit stories of our own, like the time I was on my yacht and needed a cigar but there was no wind and this blender rode up on the back of a fuckin' dolphin and he had some cigars...

Anyway, today I'm smoking E.P. Carrillo's New Wave Connecticut "Stella"

These have been.. not great. Box date notes mfg. Feb '24. I've had them since April. This one and the last have been quite good so maybe they just needed 7+ months of rest

KJG Seleccion Domain 4546. I bought a five pack a year and a half ago and did not like the first one at all. I buried the remaining 4 in a humidor and just found them. Took a punt and these are a LOT better than when first received. I'd hazard they need another year and a half before all of the rough edges are gone.
