I always use subs rather than dubs, the disparity between mouth movements and language is more distracting to me than subs.
Most definitely. I've watched quite a few foreign films over the years, and I don't mind subtitles at all. In addition to the mouth movement issue with dubs, there is also a lot that is lost by not hearing the true voices. Even if you don't understand the language, there is much that is communicated by the actor's tone, inflection, emotion, etc. I find when I'm listening and reading the subtitles that I often forget that I'm not hearing it in English...I find myself experiencing it essentially the same as any English speaking film. But the dubs just butcher it.

Binge watched "Joe Pickett" on Paramount+
Two seasons, twenty episodes. 4/5.

Joe Pickett, a suspenseful crime drama set in an epic Western landscape. As the new Game Warden of Saddlestring, Wyoming, Joe must investigate a murder that hits too close to home and endangers his family.

Mind hunter was only two seasons but rates a 5/5.

As per previous recommendations, Bosch is pretty interesting. I rate it 4.5/5.

I am strongly considering watching Bans of Brothers series for the third time.

Just been watching What Keeps You Alive. Lesbian psychological horror is not my usual genre of choice and while there were a few holes in the story line, some predictability and several threads that could have been played with more, it was an enjoyably tense watch, darkly effective and very well acted by the two leads.
Different, certainly, and better than the usual garbage they serve up on the Horrorxtra channel.

I watched another docu last night courtesy of PBS America. This time it was about the 'Sea-Bees' which I suppose is the equivalent to our Royal Engineers.

The incredible work those guys did on Iwo Jima and nearby islands was more than impressive, especially so as they were often working whilst dodging attacks from Japanese soldiers & pilots.

Well worth a look if you can.

Easily a 5/5.

Jay.

Re-watched Oliver Stone's masterpiece JFK to mark the 60th anniversary of the coup d'etat.

Not only a fantastic movie...superbly written, acted, directed and edited...but as close as is possible for a movie to get at what really happened and why without being 10 hours long.

5/5

For those of you with an intensely "low-brow" sense of humor, I proudly count myself in those ranks, Amazon Prime now has "The Red Green Show". In one twenty minute plus show the score can easily run from 1 all the way to 5.
It is time wasted, well wasted!
Gosh I used to love that show. Have to see if it ages well for me.

Oppenheimer/Special Features (DVD). Just finished watching 2 segments; there's some historical footage, lots of pipe sightings, and some grotesque footage of the aftermath of dropping the bomb (5/5).KIMG2859.JPGKIMG2855.JPGKIMG2860.JPGKIMG2862.JPGKIMG2869.JPGKIMG2884.JPGKIMG2877.JPGKIMG2867.JPGKIMG2865.JPGKIMG2889.JPGKIMG2892.JPGKIMG2891.JPGKIMG2890.JPGKIMG2894.JPGKIMG2888.JPG

Are there any fans of Mr Monk out there? For those of you who are, and those of you who are and have the Peacock streaming service, you will be pleased to hear that there is a new Mr. Monk feature length episode entitled Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie. It stars most of the original cast, we have Natalie, but not Sharona, and it's a classic Monk murder mystery. As a member of the Academy of television Arts and Sciences I received an invitation to a screening on the Academy's site, thoroughly enjoyed watching it and can wholeheartedly recommend it to Monk enthusiasts!

It will be streaming December 8th on Peacock

Thanks for the heads up. I just found out that Hulu is streaming all 8 seasons. Life and world events distracted me from finishing the series, but I remember laughing my ass off watching it. I plan on binging it, starting tomorrow, and subscribe to Peacock later to see the feature length episode (movie). I remember loving the show, and can't believe that I drifted away from it.

For insight into what happens after a nuclear bomb is dropped, everyone should read John Hersey's Hiroshima.
