Just finished the third season of Yellowstone. Kevin Costner is one of my favorite actors, I really have enjoyed this series. Also watching The Americans, quite good and interesting as I lived through that era.
My wife and I loved The Americans. Great show. Have you watched Jack Ryan? Also very good.

A great Hong Kong neo noir. The French singer Johnny Halliday stars as a father with onset Alzheimer’s looking for his daughter’s killers. He gets aided by three hit men, who he initially thought did it.
Great fun. 4/571ACAF66-FF7D-4232-96A4-BD44B6726550.jpeg

TCM is playing this; and although I’ve seen it at least a dozen times, I couldn’t resist watching.
It’s sort of a glimpse of what Sam Spade, Richard Diamond or Philip Marlowe would be like in their twilight years. Still clinging to a lost way of life, the years showing their toll, but refusing to acknowledge it. Trying to live a hard boiled life in a modern world.
The play between Art Carney and Lily Tonkin is wonderful. It’s the odd couple, but in mystery form.
Story is quite good, but definitely grounded in the 70’s with depictions and language. 5/566E374B8-53E3-4C94-8687-DC6F8432A0C0.jpeg

“Apollo’s Moon Shot” on the Smithsonian Channel.

Back in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s this was a big deal. I remember neighbors and relatives coming over to watch the broadcasts on TV, and there would be all kinds of food.

Currently watching Legends of the Fall for the umpteenth time. I may be sentimental or nostalgic but I always enjoy the storyline especially about the relationship between father and sons. I think of my own father and I miss him dearly.
RIP Thor Dickson
It’s a 5/5 from me?

Great film. One of these days I need to get around to reading the Legends of the Fall novellas. I like Jim Harrison’s poems, but I’ve never read any of his prose.

The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley. My ADD usually kicks in with stories like this, but it kept my attention. Elizebeth Holmes was founder and CEO of a multi-billion dollar tech company that was based on fraud. The case is still in the news… Check it out. 4.5/5

Watching the Hobbit/LOTR movies after the recent post about the extended cuts of the LOTR films now available to stream. So far I have watched the 3 Hobbit movies and last night got 1/2 way through the first LOTR extended cut. They've all been good so far and would give them 4.5/5 or maybe a little better.

Wow! What a nifty concept for a film. It plays like Saw franchise, but there’s a twist about half way through. If not for the implausibility at the end (though isn’t Saw implausible?) I’d give this a 5/5..... but as is; 4.5/5.
Highly recommend (though there is a bit of gore, not torture porn horror, but there nonetheless. If you can stomach the opening of Saving Private Ryan, it won’t be too much for you)

I heard one of the streaming services has a LOTR series coming out. Supposedly set during the Second Age (Hobbit And LOTR are set in the third age). Confused as they feature Gollum in the teaser trailer(?), yet claim this takes places thousands of years before There and Back Again.... so I’m assuming this is akin to the Silmarillon time period.

Took me a little while to adjust to seeing Michael Peña in a serious role as DEA agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena Salazar. I’ve only seen him in films where he plays somewhat hyperactive funny guys, though I think he’s played more serious roles than I realized. Diego Luna and Joaquín Cosío were outstanding as Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo and Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, respectively. There were some anachronisms and artistic liberties taken with the story that anyone over 45 or 50 might spot, but it was a good series if you don’t mind the Ozymandias approach they took with Gallardo. I felt they humanized him a bit much, but I’d give it 4.5/5 for the acting alone.

Saw that one when it came out a couple years back - crazy how long she was able to fool everyone.
