Which cut did you prefer?
Overall, and from a flavor standpoint, the very fine cut in the Carroll, though I was able to get the best temperature from the fully rubbed-out “normal” sized cut in the 304, which also produced a fine flavor. There was something about the bright notes that was higher fidelity with the shag. I think the hotter temps with the finer cut are a skill issue at this point, I’m going to need some practice with that but the flavor made me want to keep trying that method.

Near the last third of this bowl of several years old Dunhill Elizabethan in a straight smooth, dark brown patent era 1952 Dunhill Bruyere ODA apple 806 B124 with a black vulcanite tapered stem. Have enough left for half a bowl. Sleepy Suzy is by my side. Molly Danger is on m'lady's lap.

About halfway done with a pipe full of Sun Bear Navy in a Peterson Bent Bulldog. I packed this pipe yesterday but my evening got away from me so I'm just now getting to it today and once again I really like this blend dryer. I feel like the Virginia's pop more amidst the Orientals and it stays lit better. Definitely mutes the honey notes though so I might have to find a happier medium than 24 hours or so out of the tin. Luckily I can experiment more.

First bowl of the months was a special one, the very last dusty dregs of a jar of Ashton Winding Road in a MM Dagner Poker that constituted the very final remnants of the original "insta-cellar" I bought on Craigslist in the summer of 2020 (I'd tell the full story for the umpteenth time, but I'm not keen on fielding such an immense volume of hate mail at the moment). About a 70/30 split of stuff that was sold/traded away and stuff I actually ended up smoking, but whatever the ratio, it was surely the end of an era. 8/10

Bird report: House finch, California towhee, California scrub-jay, California quail, American crow, Steller's jay, Mountain chickadee, Northern flicker, White-breasted nuthatch, Oak titmouse, Spotted towhee, Mourning dove, and Red-tailed hawk.

Autumn appears to be arriving early, and that's just fine by me. :)
