Close to finishing the last of this healthy sample of year 2016 WarHorse Ready Cut in an undated straight sandblasted black Ropp Crystal billiard with a clear acrylic perspex saddle stem. One of these days, I'll pop open a first release tin. It's time to clean a few pipes.

So, our friend John’s birthday was last week on September 2nd. We weren’t able to get together until today, which worked out for the best—today is UFC 293 PPV and John is visiting us to watch it; John and I have been watching UFC together for over ten years. The UFC mixed martial arts matches take place in an octagon shaped ring. When I saw that Savinelli was releasing their Ottagono Due (Octagon II) limited edition, numbered pipe, I knew it would be the perfect gift. John was born in 1976 and I was born in 1963. As luck would have it, Smoking Pipes had numbers 76/600 and 63/600 available for sale and I was able to snag both when the pipes dropped.

I’m having Savinelli Brunello Flake in a Savinelli Ottagono Due Sandblasted, Eight-sided, Paneled Dublin (number 63/600). John is having Savinelli 140th Anniversary (2022 release) in his Ottagono Due (number 76/600) while we watch UFC.

Off to the studio to finish this story with a bowl of Wilke No. 72 in a pre-1974 dark brown straight Larus & Brother Co. Signature billiard with a nickel band and a tapered black vulcanite stem with the initials LCR on the top of the stem. This blend was smoked by Walter Cronkite.

I went looking for my "Newminster 400 Superior Navy Flakes" tonight as I have it on good authority it is darn good stuff (I agree). Alas I had packed it away for further aging, so 4th Gen Evening Flake in the Big Bent Lattice Meer is tonight's fare whilst perusing the next confection we will ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY have to make (Miso and Maple Pecan-Butter Mochi Cake, Bon Appetit Aug 2023).

The Saturday ZOOM gang got together again this afternoon for some smoke, BS and camaraderie. I was in the mood for some aromatic, instead of my usual English, and dug into a jar of 20-year-old McClelland 2000 Fragrant Matured Cake (talk about matured and fragrant after two decades!).
I filled my 1980s Hayim Pinhas lattice meerschaum, poured some Peach/Mango Green Tea over a fistful of bergs in a tall tumbler and spent a few hours with my buds.
