Thank you! I noticed that similarity the other day when you posted it but forgot to mention it, I think that Tavern Rhodesian is a looker too! I really like the Carroll for straight Virginias, I am interested in a pipe that is like it in every way save a larger bowl size for more complicated mixtures.
I've noticed several guys on the forum have Peterson Churchwardens, and like them. You might want to look into a longstem. I cut my teeth on McQueen 'wardens, when a couple of years ago I bought a bunch of them at a bargain price, off a sword and knife company that was moving out of pipes, when the Tolkein Lord of the Ring movies waned in fashion and the craze was over.
Advantanges - they promote relaxation, and yes, they do smoke cooler; I've measured the stem length with both a thermometer and my fingers . . . . you can feel the heat in the first 4 inches, and then it gets cooler right to about 2" below the mouthpiece, where it is room temperature. This coolness definitely helps in complex tobaccos - it's no accident that all of the pipes I've biased for Orientals (save one) are longstems. Don't hesitate on McQueens - they're excellent. Woodstems are quirky, but you get used to them for sure.
Also, I'd mention that if you want to go with complex flavours, avoid Cherrywood and go Briar. Again, almost all my dedicated English or Balkan pipes are cherrywood, except one, which is the exception that proves the rule.

Cherrywood doesn't seem to go for complexities, at least to my palate. It likes a straight and simple flavour.
PS: I have a strong feeling that my longstem Brog Military Olive is going to do great with Orientals. I'll cover this in the next few weeks when I find out for sure!
