Took advantage of a brief warm spell today with a half flake of OGS in a Foyard beechwood Rhodesian. If all buttons were this plump, I'd never need a softy bit again. 9/10

Bird report: White-crowned sparrow, House finch, Dark-eyed junco, California towhee, Band-tailed pigeon, American crow, Red-tailed hawk, Blue-grey gnatcatcher, Northern flicker, California scrub-jay, Steller's jay, California quail, Oak titmouse, Mountain chickadee, and White-breasted nuthatch.

Dinner at a friend's house tonight, so taking my Al Pascia meer with me, along with a bowl of Mac Baren Navy Flake, in case it's not too cold outside (we get fairly drastic day-to-night temperature swings here).

Second Success - My meerschaum is still a touch minerally, but I could now distinguish different notes in the Sunday Picnic, and if I could compare it to a broken-in pipe, I'd say . . . "well, I've had better smokes but I've had worse, too." So I'm not bothering with any more breaking-in angst, but putting the pipe into rotation. Right after a cigar and chew day or two, I'll stuff it with Amphora Rich, (the pipe is being biased for Orientals), one of my other favourites, and just smoke it until it's there. I figure about four more smokes, but after past debacles, I'll pass on rushing the final break in touches.

Pretty happy about it though, and if you look closely the outside of the pipe is beginning to color in certain areas, albeit lightly. Won't put any Oriental containing any Lat, however . . . . . I can just imagine the Ghost of Christmas Past dancing around in my head.

I'll post the third pipe of the day results later tonight. It'll be the final break-in smoke of the meer lined bowl in the bent Falcon. It's about two smokes ahead of this one.

So I am a little confused on how the whole "burnt ends" line differs from the traditional? Can you explain to me?
It's the rough edges they cut off of the pressed block. It's not a pretty smooth cut edge as in a standard block and they wouldn't get a good clean flake from it.
