Edward’s Special Balkan in the Savinelli Autograph 3

Anything from Edward's is absolute history. I've still got a jar of their stuff & cherish every pipe.
A very well-like employee in a local Edward's Shop (era 1977) used to mix Special Balkan with Buccaneer, their vanilla Black Cavendish. But Special Balkan was always popular as a first-class English Balkan.

As an Oom Paul aficionado, I find it interesting the many pics & comments here on the 614, even a bit of controversy as to whether it's really an Oom Paul. Yet, it seems there's a dearth of pics & comments on the 604.
NOTE: To me, I've always simply viewed the 614 as a "round bottom Oom Paul".

Era 1977, huh? That’s when I was born. Hahaha… it’s amazing to think about the history.

I’ll have to pick up some Buccaneer next time I’m in Tampa and try that combo. Sounds tasty

I’ve been eyeing a couple of their Algerian briar estates online. Really great looking pipes, and I’m sure they are fantastic smokers.

@Sandblast, Shopping for a full bend, I stumbled on a 614.I bought it for a great price. After smoking it for years now I love the shape and the weight of these pipes.

What did you think?
I think I need to find someone that wants to trade a few tins of something I’ll actually smoke for a pound of it minus one smoke🤨

It’s good, but I was hoping for a fuller, stronger tobacco reading reviews of last years and description of this one.
Think C&D Winchester, but less strength and added pancake.

First smoke in an estate pipe I acquired a few months ago. It is a Danish style freehand cherrywood sitter, the first of that shape that I have in my collection. It has a Dublin-esque bowl with a deep chamber and a fancy iridescent brown stem. The only label on it is "Alpha Rex" so who knows, it could be a basket pipe for all I know. But it is a handsome pipe and smokes well.

Rummaging around in my cellar I came across some SPC Plum Pudding that I jarred in February of '21 and realized it has been quite a while since I have smoked any, so I packed the new briar and fired it up!
I had forgotten how much I enjoy this blend and will keep it in my regular rotation for a while.

Last smoke of the day is year 2012 Prince Albert in a 2020 smooth light brown, slight bent J. Everett straight grain chubby author with a spalted birch ferrule and a black saddle vulcanite stem in the military mount style. Fed all the ferals except for the absent Abner the Eager. Fed my cats, too. Reading while this bowl lasts.

Comparing Quiet Nights and HU Tuarekh in Kia Nielsen pipes.

Finally a very similiar blend to QN. Tuarekh is a touch more spicey whereas QN is a little darker and rounder. Same elements in both blends but the GLP is pressed and sliced. GLP is Double the price due to being an import in the EU. They are close enough for the HU Tuarekh to be a grab, smoke and enjoy and the more expensive GLP to be a sit and contemplate blend.

Sigmund, you always have one damn fine looking pipe, one after the other, and they keep on coming. With such happy shiny black stems! Maybe it’s the way you photograph them. Whatever it is, they’re great.
