I do 13-14T/yr of Bermuda, but I run half a ton at a time, as I’m helperless and don’t have a lot of room. Someday I may build a shack that can fit a squeeze and make life easier (and cheaper).
I have three breeding ewes and usually have 6-7 lambs each year. I have access to 1.5 acres of good, irrigated grass pasture. The hay provides the protein for lactating ewes and bigger meat lambs.
Sheep are particular about their hay. Third cutting has the most leaf and I have less waist with it. I can only store a ton in my Loafing shed- winter feed. And tarp the other 4 ton under a large hay tarp. It definitely is cheaper to buy all my hay at once.
I always enjoy your photos of your horses!
