Don’t “literal” breathe!
I don't think I was? I just put the stem in my mouth and breathe in/out my nose. I've had a handful of blends at this point and this is the first time I've had a problem. I didn't have this problem with Nightcap a couple days ago which I know some say is a stronger blend

You may just need to build a nicotine tolerance for that blend? Or is it the flavor that is too strong?

I haven't had a problem with bold cigars before (smoked cigars a lot before picking up pipes), but maybe since this was my first taste of a bold pipe tobacco you're correct. When I felt the smoke hit the back of my throat that's when I started coughing, but now thinking about how to actually tell if I'm inhaling in my lungs or not?
